Iranian Waters?

I don't know if anyone's already brought this up, I only just caught it on the news.

There's some Navy and Marines that have been captured by the Iranians for straying into their waters, something like a border canal between Iraq and Iran.

A RM Sergeant and a Navy CPO both appeared on the box apologising for the mistake and I hear the government is working on getting them back. Just wondering if anyone knows why they were supposedly armed with M16s??? Special forces or just the media stirring things up?

"I just saw an update on the news, the guys are from the 45 commandos and they were on a secret reconnaissance mission. 2 of them have been forced to admit they were spying on Iranian TV.."

Back in 1966/67 I carried an AR15, not that I was special forces, which I wasn't, but because it was a more suitable weapon than the 9mm SMG for the terrain. Don't speculate on this incident until the facts are revealed.
