Hyperlite - I went to Duxford D-day anniversary air show today all on my tod. Did I feel stupid, you bet as I saw NO ONE who wasn't accompanied! (Hope that makes you feel better)
However, I like going to air shows and wanted to pay my respects. Consequently, my desire to be there was stronger than the one to stay at home and wish I was there, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
What's more I've acquired a lovely tan from being in the sun all day. That's not entirely true, my arms and face are bright red, but I'm hoping they'll go brown before the skin peels off in huge flakes.
Sorry hyper, due to mod cutbacks we wont be taking the nail bar this year, though we will be maintaining usual RAF medical standards ie tubigrips & bufren for any injury/ailment.

Chaff,
just a quick question.
Is RAF Duxford now part of the Imperial War Museum?
I visited many moons ago for an air show and had a great time, but someone(can't remember who)told me that it is no longer operational.

A good day out by all accounts, my uncle loves it there but he spends hours at Heathrow or any airport watching planes. He even visits scrapyards to look at planes.
He was a recluse and I said he needed to get out more, he did and started this... I blame myself at times.
He knows everything about flying things though
Drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed...

The RAF left Duxford in the 60's Wholley, the former Battle of Britain station then became the reserve collection of aircraft (and much later, all things military) for the Imperial War Museum at Lambeth.
The airfield is a working museum, I was there on Friday last, it is Europes premier aviation museum, easily situated off the M11 Motorway South of Cambridge but gets extremely busy on Air Show Days, like the veterans D Day show on Sunday, five miles of traffic jams on the M11 itself, we certainly know how to hold events of this magnitude in this country and no one can hold a candle to us Brits in organising such an event!!
Thank's guys,
last time I was at Duxford would have been mid sixties-ish.
Dad and I went together of course there was no M11 back then,
but what a great day!Two MkVb Spitfires gave a really good display along with an Me109f.I was astounded at how slow the Fairy Swordfish was,it looked to me that as it made it's final approach and flared it was going about 10mph.
Anyhoo we had a wonderful day, hope to visit again with the good ladywife at some point.
Wholley.
I'm going to Waddington anyway, having passed our MLATs the other chap who's going to be on my course is going too, and his parents run a B&B, so I don't even need my hotel room! As for all the others, guess I'll just have to wait and see...

I don't know about the Duxford organisers themselves, but the police could have organised the traffic system a bit better! A half hour journey took me two and a half hours, most of which was spent sitting in that five mile queue of traffic on the M11! I understand some people didn't even get in after waiting for hours because the car parks were full.
A couple of years ago I went to the Leuchars show, traffic was a nightmare, but I think any airshow you go to involves a queue. In fact I enjoyed that part so much I'm going again this year!
There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count & those who can't.
Have just heard that the Nimrod R1 will not now be at Waddington for the airshow, which has thrown me slightly cos it was my primary reason for going! Guess I will just have to make do with an MR2 and an all-round good day out...
Is the mobile beauty salon going to be at Waddington Blodwyn? I'm going to be there all weekend, and I don't think my hair will stay pretty with all those big noisy planes about....
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

The raf have already thought of this problem, and in a bid to prevent LAHF (large aircraft hairstyle failure), have actually decided to sell off the countries entire flying stock, which happily ties in rather nicely with defence spending cutbacks.
Just in case johnny foreigner comes over in his tigermoth, youll be pleased to hear Blod will be on standby with EHN/S (emergency hair net*/spray)
Blod
*emergency hair net, actually large tubigrip

Er thanks Bootneck, but I've already sorted it! The other lad who's going in as a Linguist with me in September lives nearby, and his parents run a B&B! How lucky is that? So I'm going with him and his family. The Nimrod R1 isn't going to be there unfortunately, but should still be a good weekend.
