just before we got married.
Oh well.....Just a year to go.
Hope they don't raise it again though!

Is it? where? why would it be illegal to goto the toilet? and how would you police such a law?Peds wrote: what if going to the toilet, or w@#k was made illegal (as it is in some countries)?

Oooh Doc, totally pissing myself laughing here (which probably is illegal in 26 countries). Is it? where? why would it be illegal to goto the toilet? and how would you police such a law?
So your sat there toilet roll ready, eyes closed, ready for action and suddenly the toilet door is kicked in, you ré read your rights and off to stand trial!
And what would such a police unit be called "noSQUATing"

exactly, the law is like that here too, it won't make children think its normal, it will just stop them getting prosecuted if they are mature enough to have it. Sex is something very normal, it shouldn't be a taboo like it is in most countries.AequitasBellum wrote:It looks like the law is bringing a few rules with it. If the people having sex are under 16, then there is only allowed to be a 2 year age gap, so the pedophiles won't be able to practice their disgusting habits.
I still think that lowering the age will make young children think that sex at that age is normal, which it most certainly is not.

then you will get laws like in holland, were actually your not alowed to smoke weed but the police turn a blind eye on 300 shops selling it and people smoking it everywhere 'Chaff wrote:Is this new consent law in New Zealand a sensationalist headline or is it actually going to be passed?
It's interesting what AB says about there being no more than a two year gap between partners under 16, because to all intents and purposes, although the legal age of consent for sex between a man and a woman in England, Scotland and Wales is 16 years, if both parties are younger and consenting the law turns a blind eye.
As wannabee pointed out there's something far more sleazy and objectionable about a 40 year old having sex with a young teen than there is with two fifteen year olds getting it on. Personally I feel the age of consent is about right at 16 as it affords some protection from the older more experienced man who may prey on vulnerable youngsters.
I think someone mentioned the 14 year old who was recently named (by her loving mother) in the press because the mother hadn't been informed that she'd been prescribed the morning after pill. I don't remember there being any outcry about the boyfriend of the girl in question performing an illegal act even though by law he had committed an offence.
I personally feel to lower the age of consent to 12 is asking for problems. Not for those 12 year olds who are physically and emotionally mature enough to make an informed judgement, and let's face it, there are quite a few, but for those who aren't and who find themselves in a situation they can't control. The law is there to protect the latter and I think it would be foolish to change it.

PEDS ... how did you decide on the nickname "Peds" ... to get a "rise"... I'm truly curious because I haven't noticed your "nickname"in here before. Perhaps I just missed it? I wonder because of the topic of your post here. Lowered age of consent is the ultimate delight of many a pedophile, kiddie-diddler, kiddie fiddler ... there are many many effective and successful ways to "get a child to consent to sex" ...Peds wrote:i just dont see why having sex before a certain age should be illegal - make the age 0, for all I care.
why should a natural instinct, a bodily function, be against the law? what if going to the toilet, or w@#k was made illegal (as it is in some countries)?
lowering the age of consent will not spawn a thousand-strong army of kiddie-fiddlers and rapists. they are already there, doing their dirty work.
education is the key. educate the children!
