It looks like the law is bringing a few rules with it. If the people having sex are under 16, then there is only allowed to be a 2 year age gap, so the pedophiles won't be able to practice their disgusting habits.
I still think that lowering the age will make young children think that sex at that age is normal, which it most certainly is not.

exactly, the law is like that here too, it won't make children think its normal, it will just stop them getting prosecuted if they are mature enough to have it. Sex is something very normal, it shouldn't be a taboo like it is in most countries.

It's interesting what AB says about there being no more than a two year gap between partners under 16, because to all intents and purposes, although the legal age of consent for sex between a man and a woman in England, Scotland and Wales is 16 years, if both parties are younger and consenting the law turns a blind eye.

As wannabee pointed out there's something far more sleazy and objectionable about a 40 year old having sex with a young teen than there is with two fifteen year olds getting it on. Personally I feel the age of consent is about right at 16 as it affords some protection from the older more experienced man who may prey on vulnerable youngsters.

I think someone mentioned the 14 year old who was recently named (by her loving mother) in the press because the mother hadn't been informed that she'd been prescribed the morning after pill. I don't remember there being any outcry about the boyfriend of the girl in question performing an illegal act even though by law he had committed an offence.

I personally feel to lower the age of consent to 12 is asking for problems. the law isn't going to be passed yet. It still has to go through all the different stages that a law or whatever needs to go through to made legal. I think it has it's ups and downs. With this law come's harsher penalties for kiddie fiddlers and longer supervision after they get released (KILL THEM) but I have never met anyone round 12-14 who is mentally ready for sex. But it is just one of these stupid things New Zealand just HAS to do... damn I hate this place

I want to say that I've noticed this thread and been watching the pages multiply, looked in at the first 2 posts once and then backed out. My history makes me a tad sensitive to some topics... like this one for the images of 12 year olds becoming fair game and legal prey if you can get them to at least SAY they consented. . But I can still think when initial reactions die down, venif its still emotional.

There is a HUGE HUMONGOUS difference between "true consentual sex" and "manipulated through coercion sex" of younger people...boys and girls by those whose agenda is getting their jollies or fantasies realized.

Kids will agree to SAY THEY CONSENTED or even agree to sex willingly if the loss if they don't COMPLY is too large for them to bear. Fear based. Dependency. whatever... lotsa reasons.
