I dont get it...
I think in America it is very unpopular with most people to criticise the military, so politicians are always very keen to avoid doing it, as they are in Britain. In this country most people support the forces, but i think there are also some people who think that the only people who join are thugs or idiots, and of course many people who think we should give up and pack our bags in Iraq.

It's happened to me a couple of times, there's a leftie tart in my year who every now and then will start off on the 'OMG I can't believe you're going to dedicate your life to killing people!' I then procede to remind her that most of the British Army's operational deployments are peacekeeping orientated, add to that all the humanitarian work that's done plus the stirling job they've done protecting us from the IRA and their bombs. I also take pleasure in informing her that it's soldiers of all people who most fear going to war and having to put their skills to use. Then she'll start with 'But in a perfect world everybody would put down their guns!' Tsk, it's not a perfect world and until it is we'll need the Armed Forces. Just pisses me off...

Telling her to **** off will just confirm her suspicions that you are a neanderthal thug. Let her express her views, then ask her as she's so knowledgable what she would like to happen if she and her family were under direct threat from people who had no respect for civilian life or the Geneva convention. Create a scenario where her cosy existance is being threatened and ask her whether she would prefer a politician to disarm the nasty man with the gun/bomb or you.
Oh what the hell since I'm in the neighborhood. I got to school with these types of people. They have never shot a gun, they have never seen anyone die violently, they have never seen anyone sacrafice anything and they don't even care to read about it or watch it on TV. Most have never even been in a fist fight. They get brainwashed in class by professors who hate themselves, who are cowards and can't stand themselves especially in the company of ex-soldiers, so they spout out this Marxist, Diversity, Multi-Culturalism at any cost, ask students to write about it for a grade and essentially make replica cowards and law and order haters like themselves. I spent many a lecture busting the teachers nuts, catching him in blatant lies and setting him straight on the service, the Constitution and values. They teach kids it is okay to lie to get what you want, re-enforce the bullshit idea that men and women are at war with one another, abortion is an alternative to birth control pills, marriage is slavery, God doesn't exist, that white men are the worlds problem. They pimp this shit to young minds and grade them according to how well they can spit it back out.
Art students are the same and the worst. They live off of government handouts at school, most can't paint a smiley face, their programs cost a large amount and the state picks up a large portion of their tab if they fill out the forms. Then we have a war and they complain? Where do they think the money comes from to buy their paint? Their 3 dollar starbucks coffee and pay for their downtown SOHO flat? The guy who works construction they make fun of who pays taxes, that is who. Who keeps them safe so they can piss on a crucafix and call it art without some dictator lopping off their titts and dicks? Soldiers. These students are nieve, professors are academia traitors who inspire and reinforce their idiocy. Intellectuals? Hardly. They think very deeply and one way. So much for diversity, oh yeah that only applies to everyone else.

Yep, surprises me too!!! Before Abe was deployed we took a trip to Florida. We sat next to a man that asked Abe if he was a Marine. He said that the Marines killed his best friends father. He said that the war was all about oil. Well, needless to say, it was a VERY long flight. I jumped right in, afraid that we would have WWF on Flight 747. Nope, Abe just remained calm, apologized for his friends loss, and explained he was going to Iraq to make a difference. The next time you run into one of these people, ask them if they've ever taken the time out of their opinionated rational to get to know those that serve in the military. I've never known a more patient, dedicated, and determined group of people in my life. For some, rebellion is the easy route! It takes less time and committment! Bless you for wanting to serve! I must say I take great comfort in the fact that there are so many like-minded people on this forum who can see the world the way I see it, but I just find it profoundly sad that these people cannot see the world for what it is.

Is it not worth an unknown soldier sacrificing his life, on an unknown battle field, in an unknown war so that these people may one day wake up and realise that the people they hate so much are infact the very people who love them enough to die for them.
Is a soldiers job not to make a difference, wether it be to the people we liberate or the ungratful population at home who already have the liberties we fight for !
I do not like them, but i would not forcilby try and change thier minds, i would simply remind them the reaons why they can infact down cry thier government and forces so openly.
These people will never understand a soldiers mentality, they should not try. They should maintain thier happy way of life blisfully unaware of the many who have died and the many more who will die for them..............
