Hi I'm new to this forum, I was wondering about the modern Royal Navy, what is the time between signing up and actually getting onto a vessel for duty? How much of naval life in general is spent on a vessel, I presume the navy has widened its remit with helicopters and onshore departments.
Thanks.

Depends on the Branch you join and wether or not you join as an Officer. Some trades will take up to 2 yrs training before you get sent to your ship/shore location. Likewise Commissioning can take a fair while too.
Suggest you have a quick look at the RN website, figure out what you want to do and then ask with a few more specific questions.
