Re: Buying training equipment.

I'd agree with Tab, don't spend money on things just to get for for CIC. You'll get boots there, and training gets you used to them gradually before you go out on any serious runs/tabs in them 8) In brief make sure your running is good, and the usual bodyweight things like pressups, situps, core work.

Re: Catterick CIC

Thanks Heilan' Laddie :-) Greeninside : did you have to do all the marine tests? No, AACC happens later on for those that want/need to do it. What have you been doing since you finished training? Mainly recovering from the crow flu! We all had it pretty bad at the end. Some drinking to let off steam...

Re: Catterick CIC

Hi Greeninside, good luck with your application, keep us posted :-) Best/worst moment during training? Best - live firing tactical training, just before Final Ex Worst - 1. some range days where we were sitting around for hours doing nothing; training teams find "things" for you to do 2. s...

Catterick CIC

Hi all, been a while!
I have just escaped / passed out of Catterick, joining The Rifles.
If anyone has any questions about the course, while it's still fresh in my mind, please ask.

Re: SA80 Cleaning Tips ?

* Beware WD40 has a low flashpoint and can ignite quite easily.
(i.e. if your rifle is smothered in it then you fire it...)

Kovacks probably knows his onions here but this is just in case any cadets are reading this. Cadets should keep their eyebrows intact!

Recovering fitness

Following illness or injury, fit individuals will find they have "lost" some fitness during the period of inactivity  Aside from the standard approach of "just get stuck in and it will return", does anyone have any top tips or advice on things that help specifically with re...

Agree with above. Don't underestimate the commitment involved with reserve forces, especially with something like RMR where fitness is extremely high.

Re: application process

I applied July 2011, started training May 2012.
I'm also led to beleive this is not normal, because there were some paperwork issues related to finding documents from my previous etc.

Well observed Millar.
They can be very effective in the right training situations, where you have control over a lot of the variables.

Re: training supplements?

You don't really need them for the type of trainng you do, plus your routines (diet, types and intensities of fitness, and personal admin times) just don't allow the kind of consistency that you need to get real benefits from supplements. Rules vary at different training units/battalions, for exampl...

Re: Army - Rifles?

I'm in Rifles training at the moment. It is much easier to get into than RM (I was in training there a few years ago). There are some really fit people that could easily have gotten into, say, Para or RM training, but chose Rifles for various reasons. Likewise there are those who are nowhere near fi...
