I agree to a point, I honestly think an official Medal could see the demise of Bling. It is because so many have nothing at all often for many years service (including infantry etc ...

I for one would feel a greater pride wearing a medal I distinctly earned and deserved than one I had been given for just staying in the forces along with all others. It would then become a decorative part of my uniform rather than a badge of honor I wore with pride.

Politicians.... bahhhh!

In my experience Commandos are anything but dense. They are driven and make clear and concise decisions.

On the other hand politicians tend to sit on the fence and are obtuse for fear of losing their position on the gravy train which they also seem so often to abuse.

Wasn't Service in BAOR basically a NATO Peace Keeping Mission? ie keep Russia out. NATO are the new UN aren't they? patrolling the Iron curtain or some other flash point, whats the difference?
