I believe that Elmer's problem has to do with his ' Peace through superior fire power' and 'Grab 'em by the balls and their hearts and minds will follow' attitude. Further, just about anyone who is not a WASP is lower than a snake's belly in a wheel rut in their eyes.

I always remember being at Deal, about second week in, our Instructor (Bunty Stonestreet) saying that those of us who stayed the course and did the full 22 yrs would end up as 40 year old broken down crippled wrecks.
