Article on Paras 10 in Runners World

There is a pretty good article in the December issue of Runners World magazine on the Paras 10. It follows a guy doing it and mentions a few characters that he meets along the way. Worth a sly read in Smiths or the supermarket.

Congratulations to the organisers on a good event. There was a nice atmosphere at the start. I also got two t-shirts at the end!

My time was about 1h13 (I didn't do the P Company challenge). The last hill was a beast, but there was someone at the top shouting encoragement, which helped.

I'll second that, but add that what you don't want is excessive flab. Just take a little care with your diet, and do as much running and gym/circuits as you can and you'll be fine.

Also, don't confuse loosing weight with loosing body fat. If you are loosing fat, but gaining a bit of muscle, the scales may tell you there has been no change, when there has been.

In general you should train in the manner for what you want to improve. So if you want to improve endurance you go long and slow, and if you want to improve speed you go short and fast.

A sensible fitness plan has a bit of everything.

Going totally balls out has its place but if you are doing it ...

What I meant was more that some things are a little too effective for their own good so end up being banned. DDT - good as a pesticide, but also kills birdlife, CFCs in fridges - banned, Chemical weapons...

For running time is easier. It makes sure the amount of effort you make maintains. If you were just starting out then 5 miles might take an hour, but if you were superfit it might only take 30 mins. On the otherhand '60 mins slow,' is more independent of fitness and ability.
