Indeed it does. Alternate plants everytime otherwise you'll start getting leg pains in just one leg. Also, don't think of it as "planting" your leg... This puts alot of stress on it, try and do a REALLY small diameter corner instead so that you're not constantly putting alot of pressure on your legs ...

I know when I went to LA Fitness to do my run the treadmill didn't calculate the speed up/slow down speeds. Either way, they should be able to tell you the minimum when you get there, but as long as you can do it on about 16kmph normally then you'll be fine.
