Sam,
Personally I took 5 days off before my POC because I felt I needed the time for rest and I knew my fitness would neither suffer or improve in that time.
POC is no picnic, and you need to be 100% at the start because you'll be heading into minus figures at the end.

As stated previously you don't do the endurance course on PRMC, had you been doing POC then you would have had to tackle them.
