Guns are you a graduate? And, do you have any tips, perhaps from the undergrads in your batch, about things to be doing to help with AIB? I do a lot at the moment but would love to have some extra things to add. I am looking to start training after a gap year from A-levels.

It's your choice at the end of the day whether you go to uni or not and should be made on the basis of whether you want to or not. Personally I don't want to so I am taking a gap year to get some good life ...

Pretty sure it is 18 now for going into combat. Before it was only the rule that you had to be over 18 to go to Northern Ireland. Or at least this is how I understand it. If anyone can go into detail that would be great!

The law that only 18 year olds can go into combat was passed after the Falklands I think. Don't know about the RM units but definitely know that in 3 Para there were at least 4 possibly five 17 year olds. One died on his 18th birthday on Longdon, 2 of his mates also died at 17 and the other 1 ...

Yeah that's fair enough. My friend is joining the army and has got a scholarship for 6th form and uni which is slightly less a year than the RM bursary. He will be mighty pissed off when i tell him they could have paid the whole course!

A bursary is £1500 a year which is nowhere near enough to pay for your whole course. I have seen something called a university cadetship but I am under the understanding that it is only for the Navy as you have to complete a full year of Naval training before them paying for you to go to uni.

When I had my interview and mentioned going to university the Captain never mentioned them paying for my course, he just mentioned a bursary and scholarship. Is it possible that they have changed policy?
