The Navy - well it's like any job. There are good days and bad days. I don't regret doing my time, however, I wouldn't go back. I travelled the world, I learned a trade, I left. Simple. Probably better now for kids just out of school with no idea what they are letting themselves in for. The older re...

Top Hotel in Scotland

Hi guys If any of you manage to venture this far north this hotel is well worth a look in even if it's just for food (monster portions!). Stopped in the summer when touring on the bikes. The guy who runs it is ex RM and a bloody nice guy. Family and biker friendly. He organises fishing and golf trip...

Westerplat in Poland.

Where the Poles tried to hold back the Germans

Not a creature stirs there - eerie.

On a lighter note I would love to walk the Grand Canyon and visit New Zealand.

It is a travasty with Haslar lying basically being unused. The facilities there are excellent and it serves the local community as well as the forces. Watched an interview with the health minister and he blamed it on the decisions of a goverment TEN YEARS AGO . He did also mention that the hospital ...

At last someone has the right idea. I just hope that they have the balls to follow through. It will make them more of a target (if they weren't before with Bali) but they may set a standard - maybe we should follow.

Or pay a couple of grand and ask them to leave

Used to get problems when I worked at Alton when the local Chinoocks used to almost land on the roof.

I was alright with Harriers (no afterburners). Bloody Tornados live up to their names.

I left 5 years ago so things may have changed, but not by much. If you go into the wafu branches you have onboard and ashore time. Onboard in a squadron you work a modified 8 about. 4-12, 12-7, 7-4. There are two watches - port and starboard. When port is on, starboard is off and vice versa. When on...

Bit Busy Tonight

I live not that far from Lyneham and I'm beginning to think I live in a war zone. The local crabs seem to be doing a night flying exercise. No end of low flying jets.

Necessary but noisy

I just looked up the RN website because I knew that the "original" 800 squadron had been disbanded.

Looked at some of the phots and there are still faces I remember. They are a cracking squadron and will support the troops well.

Down at the dockyard in Gus they have a McDonalds. Used to do a roaring trade with fat matelots and dockies alike.

You could also be a FC in the RN. My ex-DO was one. He was general service and a bit of a twonk but that is no reflection on the job, just the person :D
