Just a quick update for you guys, I've now decided to my dissertation propsal on my inital topic of choice the Boer war, but I've updated it with a slightly more conventional war, The Vietnam War.
And hence I arrived at this question ' Was the Boer War Britain's Vietnam? '

Still a work in process. Frank, I've yet to go into more detail on your mention about the Soviet's isolating themselves from the Afghan people due to a lack of sources. I'll get there eventually. :D
