I'm with Cronkilla. There could have been a bit more detail on the specific techniques involved but still - they've definitely earned their money - I wouldn't wanna be out in Siberia at -28 degrees if I could help it.

Actually, of the three programs that have been on recently this certainly isn't ...

Just assuming for a minute that they were suicides (which I must admit seems unlikely) what 'mental health' support is actually available in the forces? I imagine that it must be quite a difficult culture to ask for help in - do opportunities even exist for recruits to seek help? To be honest - even ...

Yes - what you are typing is very handy! :D

I was pretty much coming to the same conclusion as you that writing/emailing the TA doesn't seem to work. I guess the best thing to do is just go down there. My nearest unit is a field hospital unit and there never seems to be anyone there but I'm ...

Cheers Rob, that's pretty reassuring. My problem is that I do have a slight hearing loss in my left ear though I don't need to wear a hearing aid or anything (and not just out of stubborness!!) which is why I'm slightly apprehensive about the whole thing.

I have emailed and written to my local TA ...

Hi Pasha

Thanks for the link about British involvment in Palastine and your initial history of the region earlier in the thread. Both have been very informative and I will be reading the Britains Small Wars site with interest over the next few weeks.

I have to confess that I don't have the ...

fair enough wholley - its too easy to just balme the US (for everything it seems...). At the very least we should give the US some credit for not just pulling out and washing their hands like the British did after the war. While I'm sure there were many good reasons for this - not least the ...

TA HCR - is it just 21 and 23 or all units?

I've been looking through old posts on the forums and I keep coming across HCR (Higher Combat Readiness?) in the posts about 21 and 23 SAS.

Is HCR status only applicable to those units or is there a similar status for other units and what does it entail in terms of extra training/commitment?

Also ...

RobT - when you filled out the application forms and stuff did they ask for your family doctor's details and did they mention whether they ask for medical records from them? Also, what was your hearing test like? I had some ear problems when I was younger (including a couple of operations) and I'm ...

Spannerman, Whitey -

That's the first coherent explanation I've heard for oil being the major factor in going to war. Up to now I've tended to ignore most of the oil debate as the loss of Iraq's current output is hardly a threat to western economies and in any case Sadam depended on the revenues ...

As a new member of the forums (though I have been reading them for a while) I have to say I haven't really experienced the problems mentioned to any great degree so my comments may not be entirely accurate...

As far as a public and private forum goes I would certainly be happy to pay £5 or whatever ...

Fair point about change coming from within. I certainly don't think we should go around imposing our own systems on other countries - look at the ongoing fallout from 19th century imperialism...

That said, in many countries the citizens couldn't make the changes even if they wanted to ...
