Its not my sole desire to join the Guards, I simply had a browse around, read a bit about the Coldstreamers and it sparked my interest. I can't see the point in pushing for a regiment that I won't fit in with though. So far RA is top of my list as I've met quite a few gunner officers and have got on ...

Coldstream Guards

Do any of the learned persons on this site know much about this regiment, particularly in terms of officer recruitment? Are they the same as any other Guards regiment in regard to the unwritten requirements of wealth, status and family heritage? Reason I ask is that I am not from what you would call ...

Thanks, was just a question I had been meaning to ask, I was intruiged about what it involved.

In terms of the points you mentioned, based on my feedback I could improve on the current affairs tests e.t.c. The rest were fine. As for command tasks, I was reported only to have shown flashes of ...

PODC (Potential Officer Development Course)

I met a serving Corporal on my RCB and he told me about an 11 week course he did prior to going to RCB. From what he told me it gave a serving soldier a distinct headstart in terms of preparation. Can anyone shed any light on the course content? He also had some very useful info sheets, including a ...

P.S. I note you describe yourself as a 'gap year bum'. If you aren't doing anything constructive with your gap year the RCB will want to know why - basically it will not bode well for you. Just in case you didn't know being an Army Officer isn't something you can just stroll into...

All that bloody typing and you're not even going to RCB?!?!

BPFA at RCB is actually bleep test rather than 1.5 mile run. Required standards are 10.2 on bleep test, 44 press ups and 50 sit ups (I think). Once you reach these you stop. This is probably the LEAST challenging and LEAST important of all ...

Specific advice....let's start with the obvious:

1) Read a good broadsheet as well as something like The Economist. Don't just think it's foreign affairs you need to be up on. Make sure you have a comprehensive knowledge of and formulated opinion on domestic affairs.

2)Services knowledge - know ...

WJC you have completely missed the point of everything everyone is saying to you. If you can't handle a bit of banter then you will struggle. What will you say to your CSgt at Sandhurst when he's shouting in your face, spit raining down on you, for what you perceive to be a petty misdemeanour?

You ...

As a potential officer myself I can assure you this lot are trying to do you a favour - high standards are expected of officers and obtaining a commission is no easy thing. I've been through the RCB once and was considered a borderline case and asked to come back in a year so I speak the truth ...

Jan, May and Sep

Numbers vary depending on intake date, most in Sept, least in May.

As for commissioning into Paras - god knows - based on the standards required and the size of the regiment I would expect it to be in single figures but don't quote me on it.

Although your BP is high I wouldnt panic just yet. You should have it measured when rested and relaxed. If your doc measured it and it was ok then you have nothing to worry about.

 Mike you're not wrong at all on this point. However, it can be avoided. If you're following a progressive program before RMAS, peaking say 3-4 weeks before it, you can then undertake light 'maintenance' training up until RMAS, just working on maintaining the gains you've made over the previous ...

How fit for RMAS?

I've just been to my interview at Woolwich with the RA and during my interview with the Colonel there I asked "What should I do to make the most of my time between now and RMAS should I be successful at RCB?".
One aspect of his answer was "Get as fit as possible". That suits me down to the ground as ...
