Jay, I think it's been rumbled about before, but Profiles. I know there's always a security concern. For some like me, it's no great sweat. However there's so many people coming on line who only present the barest minimum of info, it's difficult to know who/what we're dealing with. (In Harry's case it's a short deck) Is it poss to create a few more compulsory sections to the profile category? Is it considered desirable by others?

Hi Rob,
Good idea, this can be done but there's still one problem.
The user can still put in any odd nonsense.

Jay,
Point taken, would it be an idea to have a Pics page, I, like many others, can remember a face rather a name.
It might be an idea to have a page entitled "This was me then" so that we could post snaps of when we were in the corps, an not neccessarly of us now?

After looking on the RN site i noticed they added a links section. While they do not link to specific websites they link to a 'web ring' which basically then links to other sites about the RM. Tony a.k.a Nomad has his website in the list and just thought adding your may get more traffic if you can handle the server costs etc.
http://h.webring.com/hub?ring=rm
Is the link to the main page and its easy to add your site.

I suggested people update their profiles on my Harry Met Sally thread for exactly the purpose of meeting up. Which information allowed me to meet Owdun, Lozhop and Rob. And very pleasant it all was, too!
The aspect of security is a dificult one as this is a public site. Firstly, giving your location as a town or area doesn`t necessarily compromise your personal security.Secondly, I spend as much time on here as anyone else and have to say that I have not noticed any real security issues. This isnt a secure back to back system and every word you write goes out to the whole world. "Watch your security" as they say. Also there is an element of self-pollicing, as per the journo who wanted phots of an ex member of shakey boats. He was given the FRO for posting the guys name and his post was edited in short order.
As jay points out, though, this still leaves room for Rhodda Gorracks to post.
Doesn`t it, Rob

Nice idea Mike.
Would you like the extra option to have the pick within your forum profile or on a section of the main site?
But going back to main profiles, it's a good idea for everyone to update them and as harry mentions giving the away your home town will not compromise your personal security.
If users do feel strong about this issue, we can make certain areas or all of the site where a user has to register first in order to view any information, instead of all information going out to the www freely.

Ahoy there!
I would be prepared to supply a pic for the profile bit, but I must issue a warning that once my features are exposed on this forum it will be inundated with over excited females desperate for further contact details.........................................................................................NOT!
