Anyone stuck in a cacky office job waiting to get started with training??
I am and it's ripping me, severely! If I could I would jack in but I can't. Don't get me wrong I get paid well but I'm far past the stage where money is important in a job.
Would you rather be paid less and have the job of your dreams, or get paid more and stress and grump everyday???!!!! I know it's not long, but would like to think others are suffering like myself....

If you had my job you wouldn't count yourself lucky !!
End of the day, if your unemployed you CAN quite easily get a job. You might not like it but there are plenty out there.
If I didn't have stuff to pay I'd jack in and train during the day.....I wouldn't mind being a bum till training starts!
Almost forgot...
I design water pipes ALL DAY !!! And have been for 4 years. How much more exciting does it get....Oh, look you've lost interest already!!

I first applied for the army last July when I finished collage, and its taken me till now to get anywhere. Mind you I had applied for an officer beforehand. So taking that into account I have been waiting since November 2003 to join the army as a soldier, and thats how long all the application process has taken. I knew it might take a few months for it all to happen, but like 7 months or so is just a long time to wait. Now basic training is coming up, time seems to be going 5 times slower than normal. So close, yet so far away!!!
Have a weekend job, but cant wait to get into a decent full time job (army). Applied for a few full time jobs a few months ago, but as you can imagine, they are not going to really be employing someone whos going to leave after a couple months anyway

So Mal,you're starting basic soon???
Hey,i gave in my forms last july...and still haven't been to selection!!!
Everything went really quick at first...BARB about 2 weeks after giving in the forms(scored 65)
about 2 weeks after that i had the first interview...
but since then nothing much happened!!!
I knew it would take longer, because all my qualifications are german, went to a german school...
But waiting over half a year to get the stuff translated is taking the piss!!!

Make sure that if your in the application process of things, if they say there going to get back to you within the next 2 weeks say, make sure that YOU contact them as soon as those 2 weeks are up. Ive learnt that they will not contact you within the time they say they will. Its upto you to make sure they get things done. You must remember that you are not the only person wanting to join the army so it will be very easy for you to get "forgotten" or put to one side as it were. I kept on top of them in the end and made sure that everything got done. In the end my interviews and barb test AND RSC were all done within about 4 weeks,

Yup, keep on there case all the time or things go as fast as they get to them. I'm always making sure things are in, references, med-forms, asking about times or possible times and dates to when things might happen.
Been told if all goes well I should start basic at the end on July. I only applied a few weeks ago. When I handed my forms in I was booked into my BARB test 2 days later!

Bootneck,
Why go to the hassle of finding a new job for oh, a few months top's before my training starts? Would be unfair on however employed me. I said there are plenty of jobs out there in reference to Rabby as he said 'count yourself lucky, some folk don't have jobs'....
I design mainly plastic pipes and sometimes ductile iron sections for public water company. It's very boring, I know it. Got sick of being asked, "so what do you do for a living?"......
Now I just answer Tech, do drawings.. Can't be bothered seeing folk switch off when you tell them!
