The Infantryman's Working Life.

Post by tractorboydan »

Good afternoon all.

My application to join the army has finally gained (a little) momentum (the Capita run NRC seems to be the common theme in the delay of potential recruits' applications).

What I want is to gain a little more insight in to the day-to-day life of the infantryman.

What is the working routine of a soldier in an infantry regiment?
What are the working/shift patterns and hours per day/shift?
What tasks are expected to be undertaken?
How often are you on the move/on exercise?
What are the fitness routines once at battalion? (Are they individual self-reliant routines or planned out programs?)
When do days/shifts tend to start/end?

I'd appreciate any help and light shedding on this from any current serving soldiers or anyone with previous service.

Thank you all very much in advance.

it largely depends on what training is going on, quite a few days it will just a standard day, but others you will be out day and night it largely depends on your battalion is being lined up for in the coming months. As you can see there is no easy answer to all of this.

Cheers, Tab.

I realise it may not be the easiest thing to define, but what sort of things would be done on a 'standard day'?

When I was in it covered many things, from physical exercise, weapon training, first aid and unarmed combat, drill, range work, time in the gym, live firing exercises, parachute work, crowd control you name and we did it.
