I can't see a benefit in them merging tbh

Not only do not agree that SBS and SAS should merge, I never thought policy of only recruiting for SB from the RM should have changed. Different animals/beasts, very different cultures.

You have some dam good soldiers that don't wish to be frogmen so what do you do with these men, do you fire them after spending a million pounds on their training. Also who would run this group as the SBS is a Naval Force and come under the Admiralty and the SAS is Army, Still I supposes it could be put under the RAF and merged with the RAF Regiment

Firstly you do not train them to be a diver!
Remember noboby is forced to join the SBS and all are well aware about the diving aspect of the job.

Prior to the Tri-Service selection some RM's left and joined the SAS, even at least one who failed on attitude.

I would also point out that many excellent Royal Marines who had no interest in serving in SF, served in other SQ's.

The same as many excellent members of the Army had no wish to serve in the SAS.
In fact it is interesting to see members of the Parachute Regiment now doing selection for the SBS rather than the SAS.
