Ghosts
Anyone know of any Barracks that are haunted? I was speaking to a friend who workes as a guard in a camp in Londonderry. He told me a couple of years ago they had an incident where a young lad was in a sange and heard a lot of banging on the door down stairs. He looked out and saw no one about. He phoned the guard cmdr and was told he had sent no body down to him. This happened a few times so he called back and asked for a patrol to look in on him as there was definately someone trying to get in. He put the phone down and a face apeared on the other side of the armoured glass. The guard came round and saw the young lad running away and a figure in the sanger. Aparantly they had to get a sky pilot to hunt it out.

Everyone must know all the stories about Tregantle and the gate house, the ones about Stonehouse ......
The facts are that most of the older Napolionic forts were built with slave labour, frenchmen, and if they died on the job they just became part of the battlements, no wonder the French burn our sheep.......
I'm sure there is a book all about haunted forts and camps, maybee that could be my next project after I finish haunting the Fearless.

When 40 CDO.was in Lyemun barracks,H.K.in1949,there were stories
of the fort being haunted by ghosts of the Middlesex Regt. who where
massacred there by the slope headed bastards in1942.
I was on watch one dark, and stormynight, all alone down by the
magazines, when I heard what sounded like a group of guy's playing
cards. Not a soul was within 100 yards of me,yet their voices were loud
and clear.
Turned out to be a faulty field telephone in the mag.entrance, connected
to the guard-room.
Didn't quite shit 'em, but came very close that night.

The Lyemun ghosts
I can certainly remember the Magazine guard at lyemun Bks.and the old gun emplacement very ghost like,But I would think the most traumatic would be the Guard at Fort Cumberland Eastney, when one of the sentry's was relieved by something wearing red coat and Shako, and all the crockery in the Canteen being smashed against the wall,And do the middle onboard HMS VICTORY that raises the hairs on the back of the head.Aye JR

Spooks
I'm sure that the area of the "heavy weapons cleaning bay" at CTC was haunted. When on wandering patrol I used to hear all sorts of strange moans and groans there.
Funny thing is, it was always on Friday and Saturday night!!!.

Funny you should mention Fort Cumbaland. While waiting my draft to Aden in the 60s I was placed on Fort Cumberland guard for a while, I knew the history of the place, but was quite happy with it, that is untill one early morning while on the top ramparts on the seaward side, a stack of large timber bulks were stacked up on the inside wall, as I got parallel the whole BL***dy lot shifted, needless to say this young lad shifted too! The duty NCO thought I was pulling his **** so investigated my report and confirmed that the lot were on the deck, the only explanation that could be made was that the timbers had contracted in the cool of the night, subsequently shifted....I have an open mind.
With regard to HMS Victory I spent a while on board as a guide and although I had no experiences of paranormal, there were some who would not board during darkness.
The only time I found out what adrenaline was, was during a thunder storm, lightning hit the main mast, travelling the whole length and passing me on the gangway desk!!

My last draft was at Hamoaze House in the mid eighties. During a period of high alert states we had to mount a 24 hr guard (locked gates and 2 sigs in the comcen were all that normally stood between the Spetznaz and the Generals secret supply of chocolate covered hobnobs). After first night of Bikini Amber all-nighters the tales of ghostly goings on were rife. Ok it was spooky old building in the dark, but will the b*****d who kept sneaking around unlocking the locked doors down at the G1 end please now own up
