Application Process and Waiting Times

Post by BennoMc85 »

Evening all, my name is Ben, 25 year old scouser, father of 1. I am presently awaiting to sit my physical fitness test (passed Apptitude test, interview and medical) for the RAF regiment, but have made an application to the ARMY as a contingency plan (am sure some wont agree, but i have a family to consider and so i thought some kind of plan B was a good call).

I am familiar by now with the application to the armed forces, having made an application to the RAF and Royal Navy (which was later withdrawn due to the excessive waiting times for my chosen trade, about 3 years), and indeed have completed and submitted my application to the Army on Thursday night.

My questions are (hopefully someone can help) as follows :-

How long is the application process likely to take (from Thursday, until reporting for basic training)?

On my application it asked if i was seeking a particular regiment or corps, to which i replied :-
1) The Guard's Division
2) The Royal Irish Regiment
3) The Parachute Regiment
How is this decision to place made? and do you generally get what you want?

What are the entry requirements of the physical fitness test?

What is the process of applying step-by-step after completing the application form?

Many thanks for any help, anyone can give, and am sure i will have a gazillion other questions along the way

Alright lad, i started my application in january of this year, i go to basic on the 7th of august 2011 so its took me about 8 months to get into basic, most of that time is just waiting around for the doctors report, to do pre-selection twice, wait for the dates which were avaliable to me, plus deal with some personal issue which arose, all in all id say i could have slashed 2 months off the 8 that its took me had i not had some stuff to deal with and waitin for my medical forms off the doctor .. but ill try to answer your question based of what ive done and what i know.

How is this decision to place made? and do you generally get what you want?
You get what you want based on the effort you put in i guess.

What are the entry requirements of the physical fitness test?
1) The Guard's Division - 12 minute run time, ideally 10 mins minimum
2) The Royal Irish Regiment - 12 minute run time, ideally 10 mins minimum
3) The Parachute Regiment - 9.30 mins minimum

What is the process of applying step-by-step after completing the application form?
1. Application Approval / Medical Approval
2. BARB test / Maths & English test
3. Pre-selection
4. Selection
5. Fill in a disclosure form
6. Pre-Oath
7. Oath & receive army number
8. Basic

Some of these steps only take a half an hour visist to your AFCO though, its waiting for date when they are avaliable to process you i think takes its time. I passed selection with a run time 9.35, 8 pull up's, completed the static lifts, jerry can walk etc. with ease. Goin for Duke of Lancaster regiment infantry, 18 years of age. Like i said, this is what i know or have been told so hope it helps.
