Hi all

My fella passed out as an Army Commando not so long ago and I want to buy him the Commando Dagger for when he goes on tour.

I'v reserached the dagger and it looks as if there are different ones. Can anyone help with regard to which one i should be buying and where to get this from?

If it is not issued then there could be a problem of him taking it with him on Tour

Not sure why you'd want him to take a Commando dagger with him, lucky if it gets past the Crabs at Lyneham/Brize Norton?

If you want to buy him one then look under Fairbarn dagger, as usual their are as you mentioned quite a few variants. (Personally I'd want a good Gerber).

The Commando Dagger is originally called the "Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife".

It tends to be a relic / souvenir these days rather than a weapon.
As said above he will probably find a Gerber or Leatherman multitool / knife far more useful.

Most importantly congratulations to your partner on completing the course, I am sure that the dagger he is now entitled to wear on his uniform will stand proudly, and moreso than any weapon ever could

Until recently you could purchase at least two different types (Black and Chrome) from Royal Marines Unit PRI shops for about £30. I know because a former RSM got one for me.

Neither are manufactured to a particularly high standard and are designed for decoration purposes. That said they are still sharp and pointy and would do serious damage if required.

To be honest, they've not been issued for a long time. I'd suspect that it probably stopped being issued just after WW2, so for my money the only one you could/should buy is one that is mounted on a plaque and fixed to a wall or whatever.
