hi all,

can someone tell me what i'm assessed on when i go for selection.

i know 1.5 mile max time 14 mins
team tasks.

no pressups or push ups

are you assessed on the jerry can carry, and the ice breaker.
and also what about the heaves- if i cant do even 1, and pass on everything else, does it mean i'll fail the whole selection or what.

thanks

Hi,

I'm completely new but just from reading through the ADSC thread on here I know that;

1) Heaves - not formally assessed on them, it is personal best.
2) Jerry can - I think you are assessed on this but unsure if it is on a pass/fail basis.
3) Ice breaker - Is assessed but not on a pass/fail basis, just noted as to your confidence etc.

From what others were saying in the Selection thread, it seems they just use the heaves as part of the all round measure of your current fitness.

There is some great info in that thread, you should have a read through it.

Hope this helps.

All aspects of ADSC are marked and the Ice breaker could be a pass or fail. The jerry can carry is a pass or fail!
ADSC now Ranks you A,B,C,D,E AND F
A grade gets you in the quickest
B will get you in the Army in the normal time
C,D will put you in the army once all the A and Bs have been placed
E gets you defered
F is a fail

So here is the advice put 110% into all aspects of ADSC even when the instructors are not around act like they are.
In this day and age you do not want to be a C or a D.

If you're female..
I was told at my Pre adsc that a female had to attempt least one or hang on the beam for 30 seconds.
On my pre, I attempted one and managed to hang for 15.
You just have to put in your maximum effort really.

when we were told to wait outside quietly in two ranks i observed that whilst the corporals weren't with us there were about 5 of us who were standing straight, not fidgeting and not chatting away. others were mucking about.. out of 25 about 20 got deferred.. can you guess who passed? it was the people that were serious about earning a job offer.

if a corporal says to do something, do it and run to do it.

if a corporal asks for volunteers, volunteer and run to do it.

Get stuck in on the team tasks, try and take the lead in atleast one of them. be a little selfish and get noticed rather than be part of the team that shout encouragement from the sidelines.

My Selection was the hardest thing I have done to re-join the Army.

The first thing your assessed on is the Pick-up from the Train station. The way you dress. Your attitude.

You will be assessed on

A) Icebreaker
B) Military Lessons
C) PT Session
D) Heaves Back Extensions, Static Lift, Jerry Can Carry
E) 1.5M / 2.4KM Run.
F) Team Activities. The Army are looking a lot at this. Trying to pick out the single team workers from the team workers
G) Final Interview.

Good luck!

I was told last week that A's B's + C's are only getting jobs. Anything less will not be given a job.

Assessment centre course joining instructions states to arrive in your sports kit but on the videos on youtube the commentary makes out asif the people who have arrived in anything other than a suit are scruffy and comments on whether they really want the job.
I am unsure whether to arrive at ADSC in Sports kit as the letter states showing I can follow the instructions of a letter or whether I should arrive in a suit, as you would for most job interviews, to show professionalism and that I am eager to make a good impression.

Have you any advice?

Thanks, Amy

If you've received a letter telling you to arrive in sports kit, do that. It'll be more recent than the videos you've seen.
Of course if you want to be double certain, I'd ring the careers office and ask...

Good luck!
