It's 3 miles, which used to be a pass/fail as long as you came in at whatever time the PTI set for the group. Officially 24 minutes but on my PGAc we ran just over 22.
However I have it on good authority now that the new format is 1.5 miles with a PTI, in 12 minutes, followed more or less instantly by 1.5 miles best effort. This is very likely to play a big part in deciding who passes or fails, so aim to be as fast as possible! Also remember that you'll have been working hard the previous day on the bleep test and skirmish/battle PT, and once you finish the 3-miler it's straight onto the assault course with only as much time as it takes you to get changed to recover.
What I'm saying is get VERY fit if you want to pass PGAC. Get some longer distance work in to get your endurance up and get your body used to working hard for longer periods. If you can run 9:30 after the 1.5 mile warm up, you won't have a problem unless by some coincidence you get a course full of good lads.

i thought the 3mile was a field run and then you had a 1.5mile run on a treadmeal watched by a pti? yea my next phase of training is to get 3.5 miles in 22min to ensure i can do the 3mile easier then to do 5miles to get my endurance up.
thanks for the info.

First I've heard of that :-? I think other trades have a 1.5 mile run on a treadmill in the fitness assessment

The 'beefing' up of the PGAC is long overdue! lets hope the PTI's actually do make it all count, when I done it i noticed they didnt seem as 'in your face' as their Army counterparts - however im sure they will be from now onwards.....
Its all good stuff!
