As promised an update on how the training goes.

1st lap 1.5 mile started at a reasonable pace and after less than half a mile picked the pace up to a fast level. Unfortunately my stopwatch had screwed up and reset to 0. 2nd lap i started it off and managed to finish in 11m 02s

This was a lot slower than my 1st lap i could even tell that i was running quite a bit slower. Result 3 mile in less than 22 minutes.

Last year between selections i managed to pick up a slight shin injury which seems to have reoccurred on this run. I feel that i found out what causes it. Whilst running on my left foot i land it at an angle running off the inside of my foot more than the front. Unfortunately it's quite painful and i found if i press the inside of my left leg about 4 inches up from my ankle then there is a pain there. So i guess it's off to the docs best to get it sorted now.

Overall - Pleased with the time considering there is 1 slight incline, 2 quite steep longish inclines. Personally felt the first 1.5 mile was possibly quick enough to crack the 10 minute barrier although don't want to overestimate i'd rather be hard on myself.

make sure you get that shin checked out bud. If you keep running on it you could have that inury for the rest of life. Better to be safe than sorry.

good effort with your training mate :D do you reckon you might be getting shin splints? i myself, as many runners have, have had experience with this, to sought your odd running stlye out i would recommend getting to a specialist running shop, they assess your running style on a tread mill and get you the best shoes for your needs, i did this and im currently completely dependent to my training shoes he chose for me :D

It was something i had last year in august time and i rested for 3 months before doing any sort of physical activity again. I've had no problems until i started running again today and it's my fault for running a bit lame on my left leg. If you stand with both feet parallel, lift the front of your left foot up(keeping the ball on the floor) and pivot it to the left. That is how my foot lands and obviously rolls off the inside causing this extra pressure.

I went to a specialist before but unfortunately it's pretty easy to run correct on a treadmill. Once your legs are tired, your on uneven gravel type ground or going up hills etc.. focusing on your feet landing and taking off correctly isn't in the forefront of my mind.

My right foot is perfect for a neutral running shoe maybe just need to have a word to get an insert for my left running shoe or alternatively learn to focus better. I will ask the doc anyway always best to be on the safe side as it's an old injury don't want it to be something more serious than i don't know about.

Just in the process of signing on with the docs around here, shin is fine now makes me think just from running funny it caused some soreness. I'm going to get it checked out anyway. I have powerleague sunday but i think it will be fine. I just need to get my 3 mile time to sub 20 minutes and i'll be happy.

You could always switch the excersie from running to swimming or cycling for a bit just until it gets better

I did some cycling today, and i think it maybe a case of just concentrating more when i'm running but i will see what the doc says might need to adjust my left running shoe to adjust to my inability to run in a normal fashion(most polite way i can think of putting it)

I got a feeling mine might be the same still in the process of registering with docs having to see the nurse before i can actually see a doctor which sucks. If you keep training on it i believe it can cause a stress fracture. I guess you could either fully rest or do something simple like swimming, nice hydrotherapy. Mine is also on my left leg and speaking to a friend at work who had the same problem he had to put insteps in his shoes.

First port of call as always though is the docs!

Sterion66 and Luke a bit of advice: try going to a Osteopath or Physiotherapist that's not NHS related and stop of at a Dr only as a last call - reason being to prevent the injury going on your medical record and causing problems later on.

I've had a few injuries and my Recruiter advised me not to go to the GP with it. I'm just putting it out there.
