First off don't call the RAC a Regiment - it is a Corps.
Secondly a quick google goes a long way. Try Here.

I think you need to do a lot more research, go to the Army website and then you can search through all the different Corps. Picking a Corps like the RAC will give a list of all the Regiments that form the Corps. You will find out what specific roles are involved which each regiment. Brigades are used on operation, which are self supporting and made up of all arms from Infantry to Air Corps and you'll find some units have secondary roles specifically for Afghanistan, due to terrain and the style of conflict it is.

The RAC are a 'teeth arm' so yes they go to the frontline, but i think you'll struggle to find few units that aren't on the frontline or invloved close to it. Search all the Corps and all the roles within the Regiments and then decide on a Corps that gives you the most options. You'll be suprised at the variety within the RA or RE for example.

You will be in a Regiment in the RAC. Regiment list is somewhere in the link I gave above as is their role - so what you will be doing in the RAC.

The RAC includes Main Battle Tank Regiments and Formation Recce Regiments. But to be honest those roles are pretty none exsistance in todays climate. There is also one of the RTR Regiments that is NBC and the two Household Cavalry Regiments that are Formation Recce as well as doing the Cerimonial stuff in London.

Like whats already been said the RAC is a Corps which includes many Regimenets just like the Infantry. The RAC includes all the old Cavalry Regiments as well as the RTR (Royal Tank Regiment) who are true Tankies and were never Cavalry.

Im in the Household Cavalry. Ive been to both Afghan and Iraq on a number of occasions now. We did our traditional Recce role in Afghan but did BRF in Iraq which is more Infantry based. With todays climate you will find that Infantry, Cavalry are basicly doing the same stuff. We are not fighting the Russians anymore. I aint done good hold fasioned convetional training excercise for ages now. Its all Insurgance/Taliban based.

Anyway any questions PM me or just ask on here. Good luck

No dont get me wrong. If you join a Main Battle Tank Regiment then your main role would be Big Tanks. But you would be just as likely to find your self in Afghanistan doing a more Infantry role in vehicles.

They had Challengers in Iraq but at the moment I still beleive there are none in Afghan.

It's the same with the AS90 in the Royal Artillery, there is no need for a large self propelled howitzer so AS90 crews train to use the light gun whilst on tour in Afghanistan. There is also little need for air defence so those units do a secondary role.

As said before, it's a different conflict to the initial fighting in Iraq so the army adapts.

Guys ive been having second thoughts and wanted to know your opinion,
i was with my dad the other night and he said to me that when the white insignia for the royal naval flag went up he got a tear in his eye.

And then i thought will i get a tear for the royal tank regiment...No :(
im thinking of the Household Cavelry i keep chopping and changing between the two in my mind selection will be soon and ive changed my options alot with my careers officer...could i still change?

I think you need to go to your AFCO and speak to your Recruiter a little more.
