Transferring from TA to RMR

Post by powellmeister »

Im currently going through the process to join my local TA regiment. However since attending the presentation evening at RMR Merseyside I feel thats the place I want to be. My applications are all done and so are the clearence checks in the TA. I have my medical tomorrow and a training day on Saturday and after thats complete im then a brand new recruit. If i want to transfer can the RMR get access to my medical and any other details they may need. I have already sent my RMR application to AFCO im just waiting for them to get in touch. Hopefully I can make the May selection.

Cheers lads!

First thing to point out is that the admin in the military for transferring docs and accessing personnel files does not always work as smoothly as it should.
If you are already in the TA Unit by the time you apply then the RMR will write to that Unit and request your docs. They cannot take you on until you are discharged from that Unit although you are likely to be allowed to attempt selection while still on the other unit's books. Be aware that you are likely to get the question as to why, having just joined the TA you are now wanting to join the RMR; have a good answer otherwise you will look indecisive and with no ability to see things through.
The RMR and the TA are in different leagues. Getting through training in the RMR requires real commitment and time. Having said that it is worth the effort so if you are serious, good luck and have a bash at RMR selection.

Best wishes,
Von.

Hello lostandfound nice to hear someone in the same boat! I live in Crosby where about are you?

Von- Cheers for the reply mate. I realise it doesnt look great me switching so soon but I wanted to have a more in depth look how the TA and my unit works and what prospects with training there are. I'm still keen on picking this information up and by popping down for an evening (which I did first) didnt give me enough insight as the place was very busy and the guys had 1001 things to do so i decided theres only one way to find the answers and here Iam. I got giving a load of paperwork to complete and now Ive got my selection day tomorrow which Im thoroughly looking forward to. However when i heard the RMR had presentation evening i went down (told the TA too) and the place was superb. Lads seemed alot more on the ball and on my wavelength so i felt alot more suited.

The physical challanges that i'll be up against i will thrive on and i dont think i'll get that within the TA and still wanting to specialise in communications as i do within the marines. I know it could take me 18months before i pass out and specialise in my preferred role but im willing to make the commitment and thats the goal im aiming for. Once again many thanks and look forwar to more replies.
