Tennis elbow?

Last time I was in RT after a couple of weeks I started getting really bad pain in both elbows after phys, I assume from all the rope climbing. I asked the PTI what it was and he told me tendonitus, said the only thing you can do is crack on through it and it should eventually go.
It was so bad I could hardly lift my arms for an hour afterwards, and spent the rest of each day dosed up on brufen. This happened week after week after week.
Am planning on being back in RT by the end of this year and really dont want to get this problem again. Ive started hammering the pullups when I exercise, and doing a few additional arm exercises trying to mimick the motion of rope climbing to try and get my arms more used to it. Is there anything else that can be done to better prepare the arms for the onslaught of rope climbing?

Sounds like you need to get a Dr. to check it out. Despite the attempt at mimicking the rope climbing process it doesn't sound like your fitness was the problem, it sounds as if you have an internal problem.
It's possible that your rest and working the area might be the answer but something like the potentiality of tendonitis needs to be dealt with and potentially healed before you try agian.
My two cents.

I used to get that when I first started bouldering, Doc and many other climbers told me it will go eventually aslong as you dont over do it, but make sure you dont stop using your arms all together, that doesnt help either.
'Progressive use' is the words i think they used best. You also might want to try herbal creams, I personally didn't but i have heard some work wonders!

Stop mimicking rope climbing and do it for real on some 30 foot ropes. Endex.

I had that once from weightlifting. Primarily preacher curls. My elbows got so bad that if I just tapped them against my computer desk it would give me intense pain. Unfortunately, this was years ago, and Im not sure what made them go away. More or less rest for about a week or so. It never came back though !.

I would tell you how I mimick climbing a 30 foot rope but I dont want to make you boys blush...or jelous.
Speaking of which, I think it's time for a little training.

I used to be able to use the ropes at the local sports centre but its been bought out off the council and now wont let me use them due to "insurance purposes" hence trying to find a reasonable substitue

Here's a substitute... go to your local dock yard... if you have one... get some rope off some friendly fishermen and throw it over a tree.

Are you asking what an oxymoron is?!
You didn't learn that in highschool...or your equivalant? Well for the sake of friendliness and good grammatical manner I'll help you out.
OXYMORON: Figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms
ex; Jumbo Shrimp
ex; Deafening Silence

I found w4nking off a huge black PTI helped, not that Morgan the Organ will ever admit to it.
Anyway, sit down and extend your left arm out from your body, parrallel to the floor. Now clench fist and flex hand. Now with other hand grasp your fingers and reclench. Allow however your middle finger (left hand)to be loose of your right hand grasp and point it to the floor. Now extend finger whilst using your right hand to prevent the other fingers to move.
Repeat for other arm using left and right in alternate pattern as desired.
Does this hurt at the elbow and along the forearm?
Yes - Tennis elbow, opt for rugby
No - something else is giving you grief, see a doc or physio.

I got really bad tennis elbow from too much canoeing & being sloppy with weights. Very intense pain on the inside of elbow joints.
Steroid injections helped.
At first it makes it much worse, ( you won't be able to drive the next day ) but it does get better eventually. A doctor can also give you specific exercises to do.
I've found it does flare up again though if you do too much of whatever caused it in the first place, so go easy.
But then I'm very very old & bits are falling off me on a daily basis.........
