We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Review the
compensation awarded to British Servicemen for severe injuries
suffered in the service of The Crown

Despite the last review of compensation rates for servicemen
and women injured whilst on active service the levels remain
low. For example, one brave young Royal Marine was recently
badly injured in Afghanistan. His life changing injuries have
cost him his right arm and both legs, and yet his compensation
award is just £214,000. Although he will also receive a modest
pension, this is pitiable recompense for his injuries and, when
compared with civilian compensation awards, is an insult.
Unfortunately his treatment is not unique, and is part of a
pattern that brings shame on our society.

The brave service personnel injured whilst on active service
for our country deserve better than this. We urge you, Prime
Minister, to do right by them and radically improve the
compensation available to help them rebuild their lives.

Just one point,it appears that Downing Street will not accept two signatures from the same e-mail addy.
There must be a way around this surely?

I've mentioned this elsewhere,
but here I go again.
Of the western powers the British treat their Armed Services the worst.
In the US we have the Veterans Administration,VFW,the college fund,MIA/POW and various individual state organisations who provide all kinds of assistance to returning Soldiers,Sailors,Marines,Airmen,Women and most importantly their families.
My ex-sister in law was head of Orthopaedic surgery at the VA hospital in Asheville NC.During Gulf one she had her budget quadrupled and no expense was spared to ensure injured personel got the best possible treatment and help to ease them back into the"World"
The Danes,Germans,French etc have similar programs.
So.....Why not the Brits?
If you fight for your country then your country owes you,it should not be left to charities to make up the short fall.

Right,
rant over,
off my soapbox now.
