I was thinking about applying to join the Raf regiment as an officer.
Before I do though, I was wondering if anyone could clear up some queries for me. I've heard a lot of different things about the Raf regiment and how all they do is patrol airfields and not a lot else, is this true or not? And the other is I wanted to become a sniper eventually but I have been told that Officers cannot do this, is this true or not?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey mate.
Many people have that veiw of th Reg. My dad is in the Met Police and he knows many ex. RAF Regt. guys. I can assure you they don't simply patrol air fields.
Yes, one of their specialities are training for and carrying out the capturing and holding of air fields, but they are also firstly and foremost an Infantry unit.
So their role is also very much so infantry based
As for officers taking up a sniper role. I am sure they can, don't see why not
But perhaps somone else would be able to expand on that.

Haven't you asked this question before? On ARRSE perhaps?
I'm sure that if you manage to join the RAF Regiment as an officer, you will have the chance to fire a sniper rifle. I'm also sure that it's highly unlikely that you will train as a sniper.
As a platoon (flight) commander your job is to lead your men.
See this website for more on the RAF Regiment's current roles.
