I'm ex RM (1995-2001) currently training / prep for G Sqn Admin weekend in Nov 07 and Assessment weekend in Feb 08.
Any lads in the Manchester area doing the same that may be interested in joining up on runs or yomps (sorry tabbing!!) etc prior to the Admin weekend? feel free to give me a shout.
Cheers

If you joined in 1995 - and assuming that you were 18 years old at joining that would make you about 30 now.
Do you really think that you can make it through SF training? I assume that is your aim?
I wish you well!!!

Why on earth would you be putting off blokes looking to join the TA?
If you were clued up on recent figures for that specific course you'd know that the success rate for 30s and OVER is better than that for under 25s.
Best of British luck Jamie.

Thanks for the encouraging comment.
Well, without wanting to get into these 'tit for tat' posts that we see all too often on here.... I was in fact 19 when I landed at CTC and I've now just turned 31! I'm in fact fitter now than I've ever been and mentally much stronger.
Best of luck to you also! I'll be sure to keep your post in mind when times get tough on selection. Fuel for my fire so to speak!
Jamie
p.s. - Joe-Cocker - Many thanks for comments. Much appreciated.

Just thought I'd post a quick update regarding fitness levels I've achieved since my first post. It may give a benchmark for any lads considering selection.

8 miles - 55mins
CFT - 1hr 32mins (Boots, 50lb bergan, flat course)

Pull ups - 9-10!!! poor here as had a minor shoulder op in August and not been allowed to do pull ups for 2 months.

I was 34 when i first completed selection/ continuation with 21 and then due to other reason i had to retake continuation again this year and yet again passed at the age of 37. I am not the fittest i have ever been but as long as you have got the mental strength to carry on no matter what, then you will be ok

They have had a 47 year old guy and a couple of 40+ers pass into the SASR in Oz, there are regularly guys in their mid to late 30's going in to SF in the US, so I doubt being 31 is much of a hinderence, is regular SF selection still 32?, if it is it's a bit silly with the max age limit raised to 33, you'd have very fit motivated and in a lot of cases educated guys joining and not even having the chance to step up for the challenge of selection.

The age thing is down to the CO's discretion.

You don't look a day over 50!
And don't tell me - you were 6'2" when you first did Selection - the hills wore your legs away!
