hi, i have been looking on this site about breaking in boots, but i was just wandering if anyone else is having the same problems as me, i passes PRMC on the 24th April and have been wearing my boots to work etc ever since, i start RT on the 11th of june and my boots have started falling appart, one of the rivets that hold the lace lock thing has fallen out and the leather has ripped a hole around where the arch of the foot is, also the boots dig in right on the top of my foot where the crease is, i have been polishing them lots and using dubbin but they are really uncomfortable still. i was thinking this could be because of my insoles, i have specialy made ones for my over pronated feet, maybe these are pushing my feet too high? anyone in the same kind of situation? any help appreciated!
cheers, james

If the boots are starting to fall to pieces, I'd get a new pair from an army suplus shop and then re-break them in. try gore-tex pro boots

i'm pretty sure you have to wear the standard issue boots at CTC, i'd get on to your AFCO and see what they say. though i was on the same PRMC and my boots are fine

If they want you to buy new boots then i would suggest going into an army surplus store and buying grade 1 boots. They will already be partially broken in and means less time that you spend getting them comfy. I did this with my first pair of cadet boots.
It's strange that the boot is falling apart, perhaps you are being a bit vigorous with the method you are using?

Since they're new, the leather is quite dry, tough and suprisingly can seem "brittle", in that knocking them around too much will cause tearing where the leather hasn't had time to become supple.
Try some neatsfoot oil. That'll soften the leather.

You're gonna be in 946 and have some members of my old training team.
Have fun

Just passed my PRMC and they said if you have any problems with your boots contact your AFCO and they'll sort it out and ship you some new ones if necessary. So I'd give them a call and see what they say! Saves you a bit of cash if they do need replacing!
