Hi lads,
Do you know when the next intake after this one is for Manchester?
I want to get started as soon as possible and I understand that I have missed the September intake.
Could you also point me in the right direction for full details on the training and what time is required to complete it. I understand it is around 15 months and that every other weekend is required, which will be fine.
I am thinking about going reserves for 2 years, then hopefully reg. Is this common?
Thanks in advance for the advice

Ayrey, if you complete reserve training, you still have to complete the 32 weeks @ Lympstone. I think its about 10% of the RMR are on long term detachements with the regs if thats what you mean? But I hear its pretty tough to get on these deployments.
I know for RMR London the next intake will be March/April so I imagine it will be the same for Mersey.
You havent necessarily missed the Sept intake, if you explain your situation to your AFCO and nearest detachement I'm almost certain you would make selection (I think selection is actually in late October, not September).
All details can be found in the link below.

Ayrey,
RMR Mersey are on leave while Tuesday 5th September, I would imagine there still time for you to get on the up and coming selection weekend(8-10 th september), so give RMR Mersey a call.
RMR Mersey only have 1 intake per year so the next selection weekend will be September 2007 if you miss this one.
Could you also point me in the right direction for full details on the training and what time is required to complete it. I understand it is around 15 months and that every other weekend is required, which will be fine.
It should take you 11 months to complete recruit training provided you pass everything first time.
Training takes place every other weekend and every Tuesday night, plus you will have to go to Lympstone in February for 2 weeks to complete your Phase 1 Course and again in August for the Commando Course.
If you pass the Commando Course you get your green lid but there is still some additional training you will be required to undertake before you can be deployed, ie Bowman radio, field firing and Commando skills.

It's fairly complicated and I'm not entirely sure of the ins and outs, but you would be able to serve with the regs through FTRS for an agreed period of time and as far as I'm aware if the CO of your unit agree's you can transfer full time with out having to do the 32 week holiday.
Rich.
