Questions about Joining the Royal Marines...Help!

If anyone can help me, i'm from canada and im going to be doing my PRMC on June 30, 2006, not really knowing to expect, ive stumbled onto this site. So my first question is..
1. Are the RM picky about the way you do your push ups? Ie. arms in tight or out and apart.
2. The Beep test or V02... i hear everyone saying that in the test they are getting 11.4 except in canada the levels only go up by .5? (any help would be appreciated)
3. British Lingo, since im canadian i have no clue what some of these terms you are using so if there are any obvious ones then if you could inform me about them?
4. Any tips in general?
With such little time left before i go, i feel i am ready but i need your help with these questions, so if anyone out there knows the answer give me a shout.
Thanks,
Hankins

I think i forgot to mention its not the PRMC on the 30 but the first of the tests, im not sure what it is called, but i hear you have to run on a treadmill, i never run on treadmills that much because id rather be outside. My question for you is what is a good speed to set it at?

well that all depends on your current level of fitness, you have to complete a 1.5 mile run in under 10:45, but going for the marines you should be looking to get well below 10:00, the best advice i could give you here is to build up slowly, i did too much too quick and ended up with shin splints, yes they are picky about press ups and sit ups so get into the habit of doing them properly

Best thing for you mate is to use the search buttom, top left of the page as all the questions you have asked have been asked before and answered in detail, have a read through past threads, especially the 'sticky' ones in this section (RM). You are going to do your PJFT, just running a mile and a half on a treadmil, under 9.30 is a good ish time, aim for the best possible.
And because im in a good mood this morn... read these

The first test will be your PJFT, a good time is under 9:30 and a good pace to run it at is 16kph. That will bring you in at the 9.15 mark but if you can sprint at the end you will get even faster.
Yes they are picky, arms in on press ups and kness together with the sit ups. Also you need overgrasp grip with the pullups.
Download the bleep test from somewhere and have a bash at home, just set the 2 markers 20 metres apart.
British Lingo is diffrent from military Lingo, but i do know to call a cup of tea a Wet.
Best tip i can give you is, always give 110%

I wouldnt worry too much about the time on the PJFT.... some people (including my AFCO) say that your wasting your time if you cant get under 9.30...but thats all bollocks. I got 10.14, so my afco said I probably wouldnt make it....and ended up getting PT superior, 2nd best time on bottom field passout and 2nd best time on tarzan passout, so dont believe all that shite

sit ups: 65
1.5 miles: 8:50
3 miles: 18:40

beep test(canadian version): 12.5

Good scores, but your trunk should be a hell of a lot stronger than your triceps.

. Your running is good. Not many get the max score for press ups, just make sure your technique is sound. full extensions, not the "rapper press," which was inspired by ghetto rappers, basically looking like a duck in water and going 1/4 of the way up with the elbow higher than the torso

.

yea the sit ups is a little bit of a grey area because i have been blessed with a long torso, so it makes it a little bit tougher, but i am working through that

You should do ok then with them scores. nay worries. When you come over here are you doing pjft and prmc and the same go or are you going home in between? The only thing i wish i had done more of before my prmc is hill work and some sprint sessions

I do runs consisting of 6 miles with a mile's worth of lamppost sprints in the middle. It's very hard for me as I'm not a good runner but a chin and sit up man

! Anyways, it's hard for me because I only started running properly nearly 2yrs ago. Some people are naturally good runners, not entirely sure if 6 miles is short or longdistance but I admit I am tired at the end(just a bit)

The only decent hills near me are 3.5 miles away from me house. I used to do them but they were not working my heart hard enough.

Which was a waste of time as I was training at that level for around 6 months, not really improving more........... rather maintanining. The best advice is simply stick with it and work hard and show that you are not there to play games.
