RE electrician and promotion

hello i want to go full time in the army, and I am thinking about joining as a combat engineer or get a trade as an electrician. first off is an RE electrician a good job in the army secondly if i were to take up skills and interests eg. scuba diving, skydiving, ect will this lead to a faster promotion. Thank you
