i am from the seychelles and i am currently in the uk to apply to join the brittish army.
my interests is in the geographic survey technician job in the royal engineers, as i already have a background and certificate in that field.

i have already started my application to join and i currently have to undergo the BARB test and score 55 poits to get this job.

i have also been given the opportunity to undergo an aptitude test for this job at Hermitage at the royal engineers regiment.
i have already been given the information booklet for the test and it is for 5 days and involves about 10 tests altogether.
i am supposed to go down there on the 11th of july this month.

i belive that i would not have much problems wit the tests however i would be most gratefull to anybody who may have undergone any similar
situation to let me know about it. or who may be able to shed some more light on this issue.

i scored 54 on the barb test ,which would make me a think bastard

also means im not smart enough to do the job i do in the TA

anyway ill make meself usefull

barb test is along the lines of

1 4 6 which number is furthest apart from the others

john is taller than phil(then a new page comes up with a question)
who is shorter?, and you have to select either john or phil in a big red box

and also rotating the letter f mentally to see if it fits the letter f below it which could be reversed

it sounds simple but you have to do it fast and concentrate, i had a couple of mind farts whilst i was doing it because i was thinking about tits

Ive got a nose bleed already, ask me one on biology, then again best not I am a medic after all and will probably get it wrong

isnt biology when the leaves on trees produce oxygen and then you apply a plaster..........oh fark Im lost already.......

hey doc one of the job choices im not too stupid to do is medic

which is a bit daft because id have thought being a REME armourer was a bit easier than fixing human beings

I was too dull to do anything else

thing is about being an armourer is if you fark up someone could die.

but this one seems more informed and better and more active

about the barb test:
the booklet says that it is supposed to be for 30 minutes involving 5 sections,
however in the booklet it also says that the sections are for
1 reasoning- 5 min
2 letters checks - 4 1/2min
3 number distance - 2 min
4 odd one out - 2 1/2min
5 symbol rotation - 2 min

which gives a total of 16 min for the whole things altogether .

a bit confusing.
is speed the issue ?

what is the maximum score that can be achieved? how much for one answer?

it doesnt work like one score per question mate, its about how quickly you answer certain questions and other factors no one understands

its very complicated

yeah amongst the things ive mentioned above there is the letter checking

which goes like Q P A Z
q p a s

how many of these letter match the one above, and you have to select 1,2,3 or 4

and the odd one out is like ; shoe , foot , car


very easy but its against the clock so do it as fast as possible without making mistakes

now it will be off to newbury in loddon for the rest of the tests for survey engineers.

Your in luck, I'm ex Military Survey so any questions ask away. Mind you I left a few years ago and I know theat there has been a lot of change within Military Survey in the last few years.

The aptitude test down at Hermitage basically consists of a few tests such as maths, english, computers, and job specific tests etc. You will aslo be shown around the squadrons and the Royal School of Military Survey which is also based there, and shown the type of work that they do.

Military Survey is a very small Regiment, and are based at Newbury, they also have a squadron out in Germany, however, there are also small detachments at nearly every Divisional HQ's and other units throughout the UK and abroad.

The opportunity to travel with them is very good as every major exercise and operations in the UK and abroad will require the support of Military Survey.

Enjoy yourself for the few days you will be down at Hermitage, and don't be too shy to go along to the Naafi at night to have a few pints and a chat with the lads in the bar.
