Hey,

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to buy a pair of boots similar to the ones they use in the army from an army surplus shop so i could mould my feet into them and get used to them? Would this be a waste of money or would it help?

I have been told that you should always run in training shoes and leave the boots for when your in the military, dunno why that is, there must be a reason for it.

Most likely because when you start training you dont start immediately running in boots, you build up to it and start running and training in boots a few weeks later.

Don't know what score is now, but the only time we wore trainers/sandshoes/plimsols, was in the gym. I think wearing army style boots before you go in will get your feet used to wearing them ,as long as they are the proper ones and not guchi type. Some people have never had anthing else on there feet other than trainers.

got1 is spot on. You start running in your boots as soon as you get issued them...not in PT, but sprinting around like headless chickens around the depot.

Alot of lads suffered from sore feet and blisters simply because they had never worn boots before.

I would say it is definatly worth getting a pair of the issue boots and using them for running around in, walking and tabbing. However, make sure you dont run on too much hard surfaces in boots because you will end up with shin splints in no time

I too myself think it would be a good idea if i get used to boots as the only ones i have worn myself are my Timberlands ! I mean i don't mind spending a bit of cash on something which is going to help me, even if it isn't that beneficial I would run around my local park many times which is grass so i would not be affected by shin splints. I would also buy combat trousers so i would not look foolish with big black boots on combined with trackies!
I know i can easily order my stuff over the internet, trousers yes but boots no. I would like to get a feel of them in the shop so i pick out the right one. I live in Manchester, are there any nearby Army surplus shops? I know they say there is one on tib street but im wondering if that is still open? Does anyone know of any shops where i can purchase these things?

that still amazes me, that some people have literally NEVER worn anythiing other than a pair of trainers. not even a decent pair, but a 'fashionable' type of pair.

These are the boots we are issued with in Para depot, and i think im right in thinking the rest of the army are issued with these aswell...

Not a bad boot. And as it has been said, it will be definatly worth anyone wanting to join para reg to get a pair of these, wear them in well, and thrash yourself in them....because you wont be treated any less when you get to Catterick. Trust me

Btw, i am so very pleased about passing the RSC but its been floating around in my mind, am i actually in the British army now? I have accepted the offer and will be signing the contract soon, i just want to make sure

Yeh if you look at your certificate that you got it even says it in little print.

What part of manchester are you from? North, south, east or west?

They guaranteed that i will be attending Harrogate in september i just worry a little because it's been my life long ambition to join the army and i always like to be re-assured.

Think yourself lucky. I've got spaccy feet from 17 years of tabbing and now have to be issued Lowa boots. What a bummer!
