Only 200 people expressed an interest in joining the Marines

.....last year!
I just heard that on a local news report.
They think it is because it is because of the economy at the moment (i.e. better pay elsewhere), and also the slogan '99.99% need not apply' putting off people.

Yeah thats total crap lol, probably more like 2000. Out of these how many got to PRMC ? maybe 600-1000 ? Out of these who got into basic training and passed out ? NOT ALOT !
I can see why they're having a big recruitment drive.
Also remember alot of people who fail PRMC dont go back a second time, i guess thats why the pre-PRMC course was introduced.

I saw that hehehheh, Meridian News at 6... was gonna post a thread to warn about it..... one thing i noticed was that there were women there...... even though women can't join up
Was also a wee bit pissed at the fact they are changing the advert because now they are gonna be overrun by people who will just waste time. I thought the advert was great the way it was.

lol the thing is though.... Why on earth would anyone want to be a royal marine ? You can goto uni and get some 50+ grand a year job, get a nice flat kitted out in IKEA stuff and spend the cold nights indoors watching the football with unlimited beers.
Its ALOT to potentially give up just for a green beret, Saying that though.... I still want that green beret more than anything in my life right now but i can still see why 99.99% wouldn't even WANT to be a royal marine let alone 99.99% not being able to pass the course.

I can go to uni if i get my grades this year but i want to give RM a go i mean i think its just the job satisfaction that i lwould like i mean i like keeping active and fit and i like a challenge so what better to do than get a job which i like. I mean i cant imagine me working in an office i mean its not my type of thing i like being active. Another reason i want to join up is to get a decent pension and the fact of seeing the world in your twentys I mean thats something civvie street wouldnt offer for free.

I definitely recommend you all apply for RM if you have the chance. Otherwise you mind find yourself stuck at your desk doing a shit job at 1am wondering why you never got round to doing it...........

I did. In 1973.
I'm sat here waiting for some paint to dry on some items that are earmarked for a canalside pub. They expect them at 1100hrs tomorow. I forgot all about the bloody things until the better half asked me what I was going to do with all the Cobblers lasts and flat irons and other stuff sat in the Hall!
It's a living innit!

I couldn't imagine myself working in a office, prolly end up hanging myself. I want a active lifestyle around people who aint a bunch of pussies and true friends instead of fat useless all talk and no action.

I'm with you lot. There is too much I want to see and do, too many experiences I am desperate to have, world events that I want to play a part in, basically I need to live a fuller life especially with regards to my career. Perhaps when I'm done I'll be able to come back to the bank and sit down, happy that for a while at least I had a career that showed me the very best and the very worst of life, instead of the slow spiral down towards a carriage clock and a heart attack.

Only 200 people? Wow last year before i went in the AFCO i originally had wanted to join the marines, i sent off for the information packs of the Marines and the Army and after reading all the bumf that i got, i turned to the darkside and went Army instead.
I even got another letter later in the year whilst i was going through the application process for the army off the marines asking for me to come down for a chat.
