alright everyone? Just a quickie to say iv passed my selection tests for the marines and am now waiting on my eye examination which should be very soon. If i pass my medical nxt week and then my final interview how long do u roughly get untill goin for your 3 days training down at Lympstone? any ideas ? i forgott to check up. Also iv been training for about 2 months now and have got my medical very soon, anyone got any ideas/advise on training wise from this stage? do i need to get training s*it loads ? iv been keeping to the royal marines potential training booklet for sum time now. Anyone have training routes/workouts that have worked for them/success? cheers sandaz[/b]

Not really a magical formula for training mate, Obviously try to be able to do the maximum ammount of situps / pressups / pullups. A thing thats important too is sprint training.... I practised this by doing kind of a long version of the bleep test. Picked two points about 30 mts apart then jogged towards point A, sprinted back to point B, jogged towards point A again, then sprinted back to B etc etc. Do this like 30 times a night and it helps loads. Especially if you do it after a run, It'll kill ya lol but so will bottom field on PRMC.
At the end of the day during the three day PRMC your going to be tested when your tired, doesn't matter how fit you are to be honest they just want to see you giving 100% when your completly nackered.

yeah that's right - also keep the running up. The 3 miler is the least intense period of phys during the course and is something that you shouldn't really fail unless you're injured.
Make sure you can do it before you get down there - a good way to do it is to do 6 miles: 3 miles at a comfortable pace and then 3 miles best effort. if you can crack 22 mins for the last 3 miles then you'll be fine.

also...try and play 5-a-side football and/or squash... very good training for bleep test...this is because you are sprinting everywhere...but you dont realise how knackerd you are until you stop...

Funnily enough, I've just this week given up playing 5-a-side as I kept on getting injured. This had affected my training to the extent that it was getting beyond a joke as I was constantly having to start again.
It is damn good exercise as you are always sprinting. However, the physical nature of the game (it's much more physical than 11-a-side football though not as much as rugby obviously) and the rather amateur nature of many of the tackles mean that the likelihood of injury is high. Where I played we had one of our team get injured almost every week & I personally have injured at least 5 or 6 other players in the course of 3 seasons. Instead I'm going to be doing a 75 min circuit training class at the gym. It's supposed to be a killer.
Something to bear in mind.

dpends who you play with...all my mates are unbelievably good at football...and i just go sliding in everywhere on astroturf lol....you can practacally see my kneecap bone lol

or8 again ppl, just to keep this thread goin hehehe : i have now found my date out for the eye examination / medical for the 8th Feb.
My Training Routine : ( I work full time still so dnt do any exercise in morning, ie: ( press ups, sit ups, pull ups ) do it all after work, this ok ?
Mon - 35 min run ( not timing yet, but quite confident ) then max pressups, sit ups and pull ups x 3 (REPS) with 1 min rest in between and to fini a few odd exercises.
Tues - Swimming ( Breast stroke only ) for an hour, then press ups, pull ups, sit ups x 3 etc . . .
Wed - Gentle run and then to finish all exercises x 3 reps.
Thur - 35 Min run steady pace, again all exercises x 3 reps.
Fri - Bike ride for around 45 mins on/off road, again exercises x 3 reps.
Sat - 35 min run with 3 x exercise reps. and (extras thru the day).
Sunday - Gym for legs only and to keep testing my 1.5 mile cain out on tred mill, which i have managed 7.23 secs.
Thats about all really, bearing in mind on my steady runs i do burn off sum sprints untill im wrecked then get my heart rate back to normal and repeat.
Any suggestions/advise. ta sanders.

Nice time for the 1.5
I would add a rest day if I were you, you need to let your body recover and relax between the excersises, and add some incline pullups, squat thrusts and a lower back excersise like some dorsal raises.

I think he means just a 35min run, not timing it per mile or marking the distance.
BTW, what speed do you set the treadmill on to get that time?

When I did my PJFT, I had the 'mill' up to its max speed, 16, and ran that the whole time... only managed something like 9:16. When I run it on the road, I did it in 8:23 best time. You have to score a ood fast treadmill during your test to get a score in the 7 minute range.

7 min range on the treadmil would be around lvl 18/19 wouldn't it ?
