Your first plan should be whether you actually get the right A Level results, then hope you get to the end of your degree course first mate. From first hand experience they are farking hard!!!

There are at least 2 guys in my troop with degrees so you may not be alone. The quals wont count for anything though so you may feel you've wasted your time. Certainly wont hinder your chances.
Good luck with your attempt at becoming an ossifer, do you you know the success rate?!

It also helps if you can spell- attention to detail!

I dont think they give you the chance to fail more than once for Officer entry.

so if you join as a recruit but with a degree does it mean you may be able climb the ranks so to speak in a shorter time than a recruit without a degree? or does it not make a difference?

You don't actually need a degree to go into either as i've found. It is becoming more common for people to see the light while they're at uni and waddle on down to Lympstone be it in officer training or recruit.
I don't know about with recruits, but age plays a part in promotion, i would think its more on merit and your ability to do the job that is going to get you fast-tracked rather than the fact you have a degree.

What Will said. We've got a couple of guys with degrees in our troop (one in Architecture?!), one of whom failed AIB before going for nod entry. The only quals you need for promotion once you're in are NAMET scores - a degree will preclude you from having to take the tests, as will good A-levels (or is it even just GCSEs?). I have NAMET 0-0 (best) just from my school quals. In other words, a degree means bugger all in the Corps, but having been to visit my mate at Pompey uni, I wish I'd gone before joining just for the women and beer!

Pompy Uni is good for the good Uni life, I should know Because i'm there. I'm considering joining the regular corps after my degree from what i've seen it doesn't count for much as a nod but as an officer it might give you the edge in recruitment and promotion, specialy if you've got a good relevent Degree like international relations (which is what i'm doing).

I may be wrong, but i would think the major advantage of a degree is the thinking and communications skills it (should) show you have. If it is in a field that may be useful on the job that is a bonus aswell of course.
Im not sure how or what that would effect though!
At the very least a degree is damn good fun and a very good experience. I would not trade my first year at university for anything on this earth!

I've not seen many, if any and I go right near the Uni lot most days.
Should I go to specsavers...
Think so Sticky

. I was in my mate's halls (Rees Hall, if you know it Statistic), there were at least three lovelies just on his floor! Student Union doesn't seem bad and there's some nice clubs around. But then I'm comparing to Exeter and Maidstone, which are both shitholes
