Welcome aboard Shrew. Mike, 31 August 1969 might have been the official last day of the tot, but it didn't end there. On our trip to East Pakistan some bright civil servant thought flood disaster/rum, forgetting that the Pakistanis were Muslim. On the way back to Singapore onboard an RFA the OC ordered a tot for the men. The Purser's men fitted the casks with a bath tap, turn it on, turn it off. In conspiracy with A company CQMS, who had a key to the Purser's lock up, I filled all the spare water bottles with rum. That was a good Christmas in Singapore, at least for me it was.

Aye - Andy. :drinking:

I remember taking a Scammel and trailer up to the RN victualling yard in Hamburg, to pick up stores and equipment for Royal Albert at Cuxhaven. The load included 20 one gallon casks of rum. Duly checked the load, found 22 casks, and happily signed up for the 20. The trip back was rather eventful, as the wagon kept wandering all over the road, but the Detachment were happy to see us, and share our little secret. Jack never did figure out how Royal could be pissed at 0600.

Aye Owdun.
