How old were you when you joined the military?

Just wondering how old people on this forum were when they joined the military.

Just asking because i am 20 and thinking about joining the military and i think that i am a bit older than the average age when people join.

I wanted to join as soon as i could from leaving school but i had a conversation with my mam and she was against me joining because she didn't want to worry all the time like she did when my Dad was in the army.

But now i am really considering joining since it seems my life isn't really going anywhere because at the moment i am stcuk behind a computer all day as a graphic designer and its starting to do my head in - I want to get out there and see part of the world and have an adventure basically but is this the right reason for me to join the army, is it right for me to join the army because i am bored with life?

Be good if i could get soe advice from you guys on this subject.

Cheers

I am assuming that a bit more maturity goes along with your couple of extra years of age, if this is so then it will stand you in good stead. 20 is certainly not over the hill for joining the military. At the most you will be two years older than the average. Some of the best recruits I have come across were older than the average. If this is what you want, go for it.

Aye - Andy.

Scott B, You may find that being a couple of years older an advantage.

Scott, I'm joining the RAF in September, and I'll be 27 at Christmas, so you're still a babby really! I'm sure there will be other people around your age, I know of a couple of lads who will be on my course that are 24.

16 years 35 days old when I joined the Corps, but first wore Her Majesty's uniform as a cadet in the Beds & Herts Yeomanry at 13 years old.

My Uncle was 13.5 years old when he joined as a boy soldier in the RE. He rose to the rank of Colonel. Back in the 1950's a friend of mine was 14.5 years old when he joined the RA and became a Major before he retired early. Me I was an old man at 18 when I got that knock on the door
to cart me off.

I`ll be 23/24, if I pass PRMC. I went to College and University so that ate away alot of my years.

I start Foundation 3 days before my 20th b'day. We a couple of mid-20s blokes on my PRMC as well, both of whom passed (both were on their second attempt as well).
