I am presently using Tiscali broadband, over the last couple of weeks or so my connection keeps breaking down, sometimes I can reconnect straight away, other times I have to restart the PC to get the connection to work.
1. Is Tiscali the problem or is it my PC
Any advice re other ISP's greatfully received.

Ask Tiscali if they have an alternative dial up telephone number you can use assuming you are not on broadband. I have had this happen a couple of times and the new number given to me has worked a treat.

Im using NTL and seem to have encountered the same problem!
Be working one minute and not the next, often a restart will work, often i have to reset the modem!
It seems to be less common now, it was every 20minutes or so before! not seems to have stopped more or less...
give them a week Dogwatch and if not get a techie out!
Cheers, davo

Ask them to monitor the useage of people in your area. you may well find that file sharers are monopolising the bandwidth, causing your system to slow down or drop off line. I've got wireless BB and this happened when the system was introduced. The assholes are now regulated and we have new equipment with greatly increased Bandwidth, hence no probs.

Here's my twopenneth. If it's tried and trusted and it works, it's worth paying a little extra for.
You simply cannot beat BT for reliability. I pay £20 a month and I have been on BT BB for over a year. I have yet to have a single problem which wes due to the line. There have been a few computer problems but the BT service is pretty much perfect.

You don't mention what anti-virus packages and firewalls you use. If you've not updated your AV software recently it may be worth getting checked out for viruses. A good online checker is:

This lot saved me alot of hastle earlier this year when I got a virus that started sending out spams. I was able to block it from doing that using my firewall and checked it out with the online checker. Once it was clear I was able to update the AV software and install the patches needed.
