It's basic.

Do what your told, Yomp, Work, Sweat, Cry, Ad Lib, be confident, and lastly but most importantly take in what your taught and never forget it.

The average Marine is average to look at. But......He's the bloke you want when the SH*T hits the fan! the ability to work out problems and beat them and then to carry on without waiting for the "Thank You" from the civvies or Perce is what makes a Marine.

You are the best and to my mind it is what makes me and my Oppos what we are. A bunch of confident sods. Perce does 12 weeks and goes to a unit. 12 weeks in the Marines your not even halfway! Bootnecks are the best trained, the best led and the best Soldiers by far. I kid you not.

An article from the Telegraph that pretty much reiterates the point Artist made.
Someone donates a cigarette - a poor thing, bent and stained in yellow patches by its own tobacco. It's his first in days. He tucks it behind his ear and shuffles back and forth on his telemark skis. Eight hours ahead.

Poles down. Right. Crack on.

Battling it out with the Bootnecks

errr NO WRONG I thought an ex senior rank in the RM's like yourself would check your facts before writing such cr#p. Do you really think the Army could turn a civi into lets say a fully trained Infantrymen and Gaurd in just 12 weeks. I know the Army is good but there not that good.

Army training is split into two, phase one and phase two.

Phase one is Basic training which everyone no matter if your joining the Royal Engineers or Air Corps do. It's basic military stuff - drill, history, NBC, SA80, fitness etc. And this does last like you said 12 WEEKS.

Then you do phase two which all depends on what your job in the Army is. Now I can only go on what I know and when I joined in 95 but Infantry training at Catterick was 14 weeks, if you were joining the Guards it was an extra 2 weeks on top of that, and with P Coy and there jumps the Paras would of done a few weeks extra as well.
To become a Tankie you do something like 11 weeks at Bovi all Tank training ie driving, signals extra.
They are some trades in the REME, Royal Signals etc that have a phase two of over a year.

So you see people who join the Army don't do 12 weeks then goto Unit.
Infantry = 26 weeks
Guards = 28 weeks
Paras = around 30 weeks
RAC (tanks) = around 23 weeks
Some in REME etc = over a year

Plus the Army use to have a thing called Junior Leaders now it's just called Horragate because thats where they do it. Where young School leavers wanting to join the Army would go and do a YEAR basic phase one training. So for some there Infantry training was 18 MONTHS.

Look Artist you hate Pongos, thats your problem I could'nt give a monkeys. You can say anything you want about us I don't give a sh#t as long as it's constructive. But please don't tell lies or untruths because people will just come on and put you right and your going to look a c#nt.

he simply stated basic and as you cleverly said....its 12 weeks!
jeeeeez! you had a go at him for getting his facts wrong....then said they where right :roll:

Army Basic training is 12 weeks - then you goto trade training ie infantry, REME etc...

Royal Marines Recruit Training - Army equivlient is 32 weeks long followed by trade training...making it the longest basic military training in nato!

Watching a presentation at CTCRM on different trades - one trade, cant remember has training of three years...this not dwarf your REME training - again?

Pezmod,

Have some respect for your elders.

I would never call anyone a c#nt, let alone an Ex-Bootie trying to pass on some of his hard earned experience.

I dont even know Artist, but I felt compelled to reply to your outrageous post.

If you have nt got the intellectual capacity to debate topics politely then can I suggest you find a different past time.

Good Luck
Bish.

I`m sure this could develop into one of those "We're better than you" threads.

Anyway, for what it`s worth. I have been both. A dirty stinking Pongo and then I saw the light (Falklands conflict actually) and joined the corps.

To quote Artist;
"Bootnecks are the best trained, the best led and the best Soldiers by far. I kid you not."

He`s right...I know...I haven't written the book, but I`ve got the tee-shirt.

There was I thinking that all you had to do was not wear any undercrackers!

Although there's every likelihood of me being woefully incorrect, but I doubt Artist or the RM NCO's at your PRMC actually "hate" the Army. At the end of the day, Navy, Army, RAF - who cares, arses belong to Queenie and Blair all the same, and there's one patch that remains consistent on all green kit - and that is the Union Jack. 'nuff said! Besides, if what you've said is true about NCO's hating Army, i'm in for even more fun and games when I go for Bootie Ossifer in a couple of years time ;)
