Can this be done in the RAF Regiment Or is it just pre para that is open to you? If you join and it isnt for you can you transefer to RM or would you have to leave and then apply for RM?

Cheers lads 8)

Gunners can do the All Arms Course. It is quite rare, because very few gunners have a job requisite to do that training. However, the RAF Regt does exchange personnel with the Airbourne and Commando brigades, so you can be in the RAF and still wear a Maroon or Green beret. You can also apply for SF..there are quite a few gunners wearing 'upside down' wings.

so is it possible to transfer from the RAF reg. into the royal marines i.e. 40, 42 or 45 commando? or would you have to leave the Regiment and re-apply for RM?

Any Advice on this would be very helpful

There are currently 2 RAF posts within 3 Cdo Bde, both filled by the RAF Regt. One is the Brigade Air Liaison Officer, who works in Bde HQ, and the other is an exchange SNCO, who is a Tp Sgt with 45 Cdo. In return, a RM SNCO is on the strength of 1 Sqn RAF Regt.

The RM TACPs are filled by RM personnel only, unlike 16 AA Bde, where the TACPs comprise entirely of RAF Regt personnel.

RAF personnel serving with 3 Cdo Bde wear the Bde flash, and the Green Beret/Commando Dagger if they have passed the AACC. Upon return to the RAF, they are entitled to wear the Commando Dagger badge on their left sleeve, but negative Green Beret.

DaveM - Why join the RAF Regt and then transfer to the RM? This seems a long and convoluted way of doing things. If you're interested in joining the RM, apply straight off. The RM and RAF Regt are 2 different organisations for a start. The RM concentrate on force projection, whereas the RAF Regt is concerned with force protection.

Also, there is no guarantee you would ever get onto an AACC whilst in the RAF. Add 18 weeks Gunner training to the 8 weeks of the AACC, you get 26 weeks. As RM basic trg is 30 weeks, joining the RM straight off seems like the sensible option.

I'm not in any way acting as recruiter for the RM or RAF Regt here, but it seems daft to join one organistation, whilst harbouring a desire to be in an other.

RockApe - thanks very much for the info. I had seen information on various internet sites about moving from the RAF reg. to the marines and the paras, just wanted a little more gen on how this worked. I took PRMC in May, but failed, i have to wait until November now before trying again. I was toying with the possiblity of joining another branch of the armed forces to gain the experience and fitness required to be succesful in an elite unit such as the marines. As i now know this is not a viable option i will get stuck into my physical training and make sure i pass PRMC at the next attempt.

Thanks again for the information.

Yeah i failed PRMC, that damn 3 mile run with a knee injury off bottom field!!!! i am currently thinking about doing what DaveM is talking about, join the RAF REG to get some experience and improve fitness, i really didnt like Lympstone CTC but would consider the AACC at a later date.
