Just passed my BARB. Trying to apply for RA. I probably know about as much as you. I know there's a few choices as to what gun you get trained on, AS90, Light gun, MLSR etc. what area you from? The posting you'll get depends on where you are from.

You have a date for selection yet? I'm waiting for a date. I'm going gunner too so you might be on the same one as me.

hello mate

im a close air defence gunner in the RA. once u have passed phase 1 you go to RSA Larkhill in Wiltshire (check their website). RSA is the royal school of Artillery. When your their you do your level 1 course on the type of Gun you have chosen, ie light gun, air defence, AS90. All other guns MLRS, rapier FSC and the STA kit like cobra is taught at your regiment. You may not do 'guns' you may have to do the signals course. The 'guns' course is about 2 weeks whilst signals is 4 weeks. you then do your driving course. First your Cat B (car) then either B+E or C and C+E (HGV). Then you get posted to your regiment. I wouldn't go Airdefence. 32 regt is growing and will be a lot of postings or else chose the AS90. the army will be using them for years to come.

Hope this helps mate

Light gun if you wanna be on the enemy's doorstep, I'm training as a TA gunner at the min. larkhill lovely, conviniently located near Salisbury Plain! Looking at maybe getting on an ex. in belize next year with 7 Para RHA if all goes well (touch wood). I do believe that it would be on a whole new level of pain though, going with the airborne!

Hi there. I'm just about to start the process to join as a Gunner in 29 Commando Regiment.

Appologies if this sounds like one of those 'wannabes' questions, but is there an oppurtunity to becoming an Observation Post Assisstant from training or would it take a few years in service first?

Once your all badged up and in 29 you can get on the guns as a gun bunny or go 148Bty for Forward Observing. Best make your choice known before joining up so they know you want that specialization. Or you might end up on the guns waiting to transfer to FO.
