Hello there. I finally went to the AFCO the other day and I have booked the barb test. The very fast talking SSgt said that I’d have to wear a suit to one of the interviews, but i dont know which one.
Do I have to wear a suit to the BARB or is it for an interview after the BARB? I e-mailed the online recruitment thing on the army jobs website but they didn’t have a clue.

I did my BARB test in casual clothes, and had some job choices shown to me afterwards. I came back a couple days later for a suit n tie interview thou

Well, if you want to make a good impression. If you have not got a suit my advice is to at least wear a shirt and a tie with some shoes and smart trousers. Remember your trying to get a JOB here

And when you do go dressed smart check your clothes for creases, marks, fluff etc and make sure your shoes are polished big stlye. I mean mega shine. Never go to the AFCO with stubble and make sure you dont wear too much hair gel (the major at my interview told a lad he'd need to sort his hair out, then asked him if he was weighed by the sgt with his hair gelled or not - we all pissed ourselves) Make sure sleep is wiped from your eyes and you smell clean.
Remember its not just a job its a highly disciplined job and the better the impression you make the faster your application will be.
that all said please dont call me mum

Do you not think I’d look like a poser or a twat if I wear a suit when there’s no need?

no because you could have popped in from the office. Everytime ive been down the AFCO ive worn shirt and tie, you just look better and far more proffessional. If you wear suit and sunglasses you look like a poser!!

Your appearance will be noted during the application process. Always turn up smart and that's what'll go on your application.

No! as people say you are applying for a job! The amount of people that you see in AFCO in jeans and trainners "kiking it" with the staff is amazing!
dont be one of them!

The staff wont be marking you for how much your suit costs or whether you have handmade shoes. Smart appearance and polished shoes are what it's about. "Effort" should be your watch-word through the recruitment process. Always put in your best effort at every stage. As matttttttttttt says, it's possible to buy a cheap suit or you could borrow one or buy one second hand. You don't have to wear a suit of course. Shirt and tie are a given, smart ironed trousers, and polished shoes.
