Whats everyones take on the military expo in Mexico that has refused efforts of local search and rescue and want to wait for UK military support?
Has something hit the wind blower somewhere?

I don't think theres much substitute for local knowledge..but I think
I can understand wanting to have a trusted friendly on the outside
if decisions from there have to be made.
I'm no potholer but maybe it might have made sense for one of the team to have remained on the outside in the first place in the event of any difficulties occurring.

There is a full support team including the leader on the outside, they also have radio contact via wire leading to the team.
It's a bit of a buggers muddle now th evarious Mexican agencies are getting involved and feeling their machismo has been dented. I'd rather wait for a good old clearance diver from the UK as well.
Apparently the team are well, bored, eating freeze dried food and playing cards.

Is it true that the group concerned are Special Forces who were up to some sort of naughty business training in preperation for some anti-Alqaeda mission but are incapable of diving without someone to hold their hand?
I can see why the Mexican Govt might be a little sus when foreign military personel refuse local assistance but they do come across as a little paranoid. Given how dangerous pot-holing can be I'm not suprised that those with the means to would prefer to use experts they know and trust.

The Mexicans seem pretty touchy about the 'sovereignty' of their borders, except when it comes to them crossing it Northward.
And I'm not talking about illegal migrants, I'm talking about Mexican armor and troops manoeuvering across the desert on the American side, in plain view of Border Patrol or whoever happens to be in the area.

I've been to places on a civvy tourist visa (including a bit closer to the Tibet border than was advisable - officers/maps etc.
) they were on holiday weren't they?
