Advice

Look- I don't know why im typing this but you lot are the only ones who are best to advise.
Basically I live with my parents and I recently gave up my job to train and prepare myself for a life as a RMC (I haven't applied yet but im making sure im as ready as i can be). I've noticed a big jump in my fitness level and it im really pleased with it. However, my parents aren't happy that I haven't got a job and are ''forcing'' me to get one. I know that if I get a job (even a manual labour one), my training routine will go to pot and ill be no better off than when i was a lazy slob :-? The point is that they are unhappy that im not earning any money- ok fair enough, but they don't seem to understand that this will only be for 2 months at the most. At least if i've applied they can see im making progress.
What i'm asking is: what would you guys do in this situation? I want to be a RMC more than anything, but as my minds focused on this, I'm not sure if I am neglecting whats going on around me. I suppose I need a killer reason why not to get a job, that they will understand. The problem is, they wont listen to me.
I don't really know what im asking here. I just wondered if anyone else has been in this situation. :(

Why not get a part time job? that wont interfear with your training too much and keep your parents happy.
Im going to be in the same situation in about 3 weeks time when i go home.

Yeah I considered a part time job, but at the moment, im training morning, afternoon and nights. Im losing about 2 lbs a day and i don't really want to stop as i can see its working. I suppose the thing to do is to sit down and talk to them and say that when i pass my PJFT I could get a p/t job inbetween that and the PRMC and the same with the actual Commando Training. :-? Bloody parents-you can't please them no matter what you do! 8)

Get a job and then train. Thats what most blokes do mate.
No point upsetting the family Hey?

You will get there if you want it enough. (adapt and impovise, just like the Marines do) I joined and nearly died in the first three days of training.

Let the Marines sort out your fitness. It damn well worked for me and a lot of other Bootnecks. The Marines do not want Supermen, they just want guys who are able and willing. Calm down and stop worrying about nought! Get a job and enjoy your Life.

I was thinking along those lines but my mum says that my dad is thinking of getting a 'CCJ' (I think thats what she said) to ban me from the house. Well he can do what he likes, because im past caring. I know what I want to do with my life and if they don't like it, then tough! I'll be on my own on the passing out day!

Nope-they just want me out. We row practically every other day- the sooner I go, the better all round. I would apply tomorrow but i still got this bloomin belly. All this dieting and training is helping but not quick enough! We just had a row like 2 seconds ago because of something I wasn't even involoved in! I can't wait to get out

I was in the same situation as you, but in the end i just got a job to keep them sweet.I get up a 6 to go running, then go to work, then when i come home i do me training. If you want it bad enough you'll find away to make it all fit-theres no point in arguing.

A lot of the people at my local recruitment office hold down jobs as well as training. Also if you pass the interview you'll have to go on the prmc, which your going to need to take some things with you, so if you havent got them and haven't got a job your going to have to ask your parents for money which will anger them even more.

Sorry for ranting but thats the way life is, nothings ever easy.

Good luck

Yeah cheers. Money wise- I've got quite a bit in the bank so that's why i don't understand about them pressuring me to get a job :-? I'll have a look about but as i don't drive yet, I'll have to get a fairly local one.

If i was you mate id hand the application forms in now and get your PJFT done sharpish - at least that way you can say to your folks
'ive just passed one of the hurdles, and im off to Lympstone in 1/2 months' this way it seems like you are definately going for the RM - see, i was in the same position as you except that i HAD a *decent* job (to me folks that is, i still hold my opinion that the job was complete and utter sh£te and would of been the end of me) but quit to train, which annoyed my folks cos the thought id just become a doley - however, when i passed my pjft and got meself a small office data entry job they were sweet, and even taken an interest in what i was applying for. Advice though - dont get a manual labour job, i found that doing refurb work, unloading deliveries and that left me with not enough juice to go for my runs and upper body sessions in the evening.

Hope my opinion helps mate...

It does indeed ta. I discovered that after helping a mate shift stuff from house to house, I didn't have enough 'juice' for me evening run. I rang up the AFCO and asked about the max BMI you could be. Basically I gotta make sure im super fit-and then take my chances with the medical. Job-wise, I was thinking about a postman or something like that. Up early/exercise/rest of day to train and get paid. I might need to rethink this one though!.

I was in the exact same position. Your theory about your training going downhill is wrong, you simply make time for it. Look for a delivery (recieving goods in a store)job (early mornings and usually 2-3 days a week) it keeps your parents of your back and you have all day to train, its what ive done.

I just turned up and they got me fit. I did however boke my ring up a few times in the process. You need to be determined to stay and do it. Dont throw the head up just because your tired cold wet hungry and pissed off. It doesnt last that long.

But you do need to practise being cold and wet thats very important.
